Summer of Cricket thread

For mine sentimentality and team selections are mutually exclusive.

What I think Cricket Aus should do is every few Tests in Aus assemble recently retired Test long term cricketers, Dave Warner, soon Usman, possibly GOAT (although still probably good enough). maybe Barrel, and parade them in an open air car around a Test prior to the start of the Test. They should get a big send off.

The brilliant Aus bowling attack has carried some of the batters for sustained periods, who are also quite old - Warner (should have been axed years before he retired), Labu ( 2-3 years of sub par and should have been dropped to sort his issues out, which he has belatedly), now Usman has struggled recently, and even Head ATM a brilliant home pitch player, has struggled overseas (like Doug Walters and Warner throughout their careers).

Starc, Josh H, Paddy and GOAT as a superb bowling unit have papered over some batting cracks and sustained losses of form of some batters.

Even Green, although young, has underperformed as a Test player to date. He should be averaging in the 40s.

I think younger consistent Shield players need to be tried. 2 more years and a few of the Aus team will be over 40. They are not the future.

They should be told, ‘we have to try some younger players. If you want to keep playing, go back to the Shield. You’ve had a long career, but we have to think of renewal. We can’t afford to have you all injured, or retired at the same time. We must blood and transition some younger players gradually. You are getting in the way of a competitive team in the future.’

Yes the selectors should be have already acted on generational transition but have ignored preferring to hold onto former team mates, or 'the boys club'. This is nothing more than nepotism and has meant that now some of our greats will all be leaving the game at a similar time, thus leaving a massive hole to fill. If they fail to move after this series they should be sacked.

Bit unfair on Ussie considering his scores this match
Have a look at my post a few down.

Long term he is blocking, or selectors are blocking younger players gaining experience. Usman is also the worst fielder in the team.

Usman has been a terrific batter - but time to go back to Shield cricket. He is 39 yo.

McSweeney, Kellaway and Konstas are between 20-24.

That used to happen Test players goung back and playing a few seasons in shield. Plenty of profitable short form cricket.

I think we only need one more wicket here, try to limit partnerships to around 50. There will be a tumble of wickets at some stage.

Their game plan to sweep/reverse sweep the spinner has come unstuck after Brook missed one. This bloke always seems to find a way of defeating himself.

Brook is a very talented batter though, Baggers.

Great to watch!

Well if Crawley stokes hang in rest of the day the 250+ is going to be reachable they have a good morning tomorrow.
We need to bust this asap

There is massive pressure on Crawley and Stokes ATM.

There are no experienced, specialist Test batters to come from the Poms. Smith and Jacks have played little Test cricket. They won’t cope with the pressure.
