I don’t know if it was nervousness that caused so much poor passing but there were far too many turnovers. Most of the players have played in age tournaments before so it shouldn’t have been a reason. It’s something that coaching staff will have to work on.

They are a more skilful team with a better technique and are probably fitter all due to their highly intensive training from a young age. They are a physical team and like to disrupt the flow of the game, all of which Australia found difficult to deal with.

I disagree, the development system needs a massive overhaul as Joe Montemurro has pointed out. It’s very ad hoc and coaches get very little time with squads prior to tournaments.

Hopefully it will get that if the measures Joe Montemurro wants are put in place but we’re probably looking at a decade before we see that coming to fruition.

Sorry but I think you’re wrong, even now the majority of players being called up at junior Matildas levels are from the ALW. As professionalism becomes more entrenched then the standard increases.

That would be fine if the clubs funded their women’s teams well enough but most clubs, if not all, treat them as a financial burden. That’s why the PFA has called for a separate women’s league. If that were to happen then they could professionalize which would help the building of Matildas teams...

That’s because the US and Canada see the potential of womens football and are willing to invest in it. I don’t think it needs a huge investment to get a womens league up and running it just needs someone with the guts to start the ball rolling.

It’s just an opinion anyway but naming your favourite players as the ‘most likely’ does a disservice to the many young players striving to play at the top level.

There are many ALW players who play NPL during the winter season. Izzy Gomez played for Northern Tigers in the NSW nplw before joining the Mariners and up to last season still has.
