Ok. I understand what you are saying. I just don't accept that a game of Friendly football, is a "Competition". I'm gonna butt out of this now because I don't think it will get resolved one way or another by us amateurs. What is now needed is some sort of clarification by FIFA if, or when...

According to Transfermarkt he is dual Scotland and England nationality. Also according to Transfermarkt, his father is English, born in London. He's never appeared in any of the lists of O/S Aussies compiled by Damian Davies. Maybe another example of reasons not to accept AI as gospel, without...

He's tied to Australia but still has the potential ability to request a Change of Association. So not quite "secured", if that wording means "can't play for another nationality".

I would imagine they were sanctioned for playing him - Friendly or not - when he did not yet hold the sporting nationality of Greece.

This is a screenshot of Article 5 Para 3 20 (sorry, I left out the 3 when referring to it earlier). It's in that FIFA document that you posted the link to

James says "any match". I'm not sure if that's what he really meant (a Friendly would obviously qualify as an "any match") or whether he meant any match "in any (official or unofficial) competition. Which is the wording used by FIFA. So really, it boils down to whether or not a Friendly is a...

@Keeper66 Your take on this is interesting. FIFA does not define what non-official competition is, nor do they refer to or define friendlies. All games that aren't official competition are non-official competition, so non-official games include friendlies. Do you have a link or other source...

Skoko could still elect to Change Association to Australia. He's had Official Competition Youth caps for Croatia but that doesn't preclude him from switching. Just like Triantis was able to switch to Greece even though he had Official Competition Youth caps for Australia.

    Friendlies don't count.

Correct Nic. He plays for their U21's in any Competition, Official or Non-Official, he's locked away forever to Croatia. He can play only Friendlies for them - Underage or Senior, it doesn't matter because Friendlies have no effect on anything - if he wants to retain the right to try to reverse...

Yes, of course. While he has only ever played Youth football for them, he always retains the option to request a Change of Association, if he wishes to do that.

I don't think you can blame Popovic for Skoko - he was tied to Croatia well before the time Popovic became Australia's coach. Skoko was tied in May 2023, when he played for Croatia in the UEFA European U17 Championship.

Ok. I can't recall any instances of that but if such people did quote it, then they were either incorrect or were privy to some sort of insider ruling from FIFA that is not reflected in the FIFA Change of Association Rules. I have attached a screenshot of the actual wording used by FIFA.

We are talking about different things. I'm referring only to 1 of the 5 - not all 5 of the situations you are referring to. I'm replying to John's question about the 3 caps thingy. I'm not talking about all of FIFAs 5 situations - only the one in Para 2 (c). I'm well aware that 4 other...

I don't know how or when the "3 Caps" myth started but it seems to me that it probably originated as either a misreading or a misunderstanding (maybe both) of the Rules relating to Change of Association, that FIFA amended in September 2020. The new Rule which refers to 3 caps is contained in...
