Aussies abroad 🌍🦘

Still got a smug attitude and despite his talents, Popovic won't want that in camp. If he kicks on in the league this season he may be short listed for Italy if they make it.
You can have a smug attitude and work hard, they aren't mutually exclusive. Popovic would happily bring him into camp and judge once he is there.

More broadly I think it is important if he does declare for us. There are a few other young Italian Australians coming through Serie at the moment. Developing a pattern of them selecting us would be good, especially if Ciccati is building relationships with them, showing you can play for Aus and make it in Italy at the same time.

Antonio Arena (16) an unused sub for Roma v Cagliari in Italy Serie A.

I think that's the second time this season he has been on the bench for the Serie A side, so it seems to me they are progressing down the path of developing him by giving him experience in the First Team environment.
Cap him Popa, we can’t have two Cristian Volpatos.

Provided he turns his attitude around given his past sentiment. No doubting his talent but a player with his viewpoint to the national team isn't needed. The risk is he turns up and then has a tantrum and doesn't perform. Popovic needs to ensure his drive is genuine.

for all the criticisms of poppa, I'm not worried about him selling the shirt or allowing anyone to bring drama to the dressing room

if he plays for us under poppa he wants to

Yeah I think so. Popovic is the firewall. I wonder if he's reaching out for March now?
If he wants to play for us for real then it might come down to when he feels like he wont get punished by his club for flying out. He doesnt yet start every or even most games

if he has us as second preference it might take a few more years before things are clear.

So either way the dust might still be unsettled by the world cup

It's not only Italian clubs but I feel they make the biggest fuss about international duty. Would they try it on against a Japanese or Brazilian talent? It's a bit of extra flying but there's just something about our players having that punishment hanging over their head and it's a joke.

probably depends how undroppable you are

circati has made himself undroppable and so threat has no power

And you call yourself honest...
Come on, you got Portsmouth. In the League Cup you got Port Vale. The women got Crystal Palace in the League Cup and I bet they'll get another lower league team in the FA Cup. Those are very easy opening draws for one of the strongest teams in England, as none of those are even Premier League or Women's Super League teams.

You said it always happens. I seem to remember some pretty tough 3rd round matches in recent years.

Full Aussie FA Cup draw:
  • Bristol City vs Watford
  • Burnley vs Millwall
  • Cheltenham vs Leicester
  • Derby vs Leeds
  • Fulham vs Middlesbrough
  • Hull vs Blackburn
  • Portsmouth vs Arsenal
  • Swansea vs West Brom
  • West Ham vs QPR
Did I miss any?

Furthermore in the DFB-Pokal, St. Pauli will face Bayer Leverkusen away in the quarter-finals in early to early-mid February next year. Tough draw for Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe.
