The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Its so much harder to win the acl than the national league so i ratr it way higher. On average we have been maybe the 7th best league in asia, how would the 7th best league in europe rate a uefa champions league title compared to a domestic league one? Irregardless i think its the most impressive achievement of any club of any code in australia
The Mariners win in Asia was better IMHO.

I think if this was a home and away league format we would likely finish 1st still.

This is arguably our strongest team since the nsl finished. Full of quality, the intensity of our play is off the charts, and we now have a coach who coaches like an smfc coach (attack).

Only real weakness is maybe our depth isnt that great. How the presidents son still gets on the field pisses me off.

As for the day overall, first of all seeing so much blue and white at northland shopping centre before the game was incredible. I have no idea how everyone managed to find parking cos it was an absolute shitshow. I give the FA 0/10 though, did they bring in a single food truck? Our arch enemies Heidelberg made an absolute killing! Whilst im not one to complain about watching a grand final for free it was absolute amatuer hour at the entry points, the main ticket windows at the regular entrance were closed, just one small window open behind it which everyone ignored and just walked in, it did not feel like i was walking into a venue hosting a grand final!

South fans were excellent though, only thing missing was a 2nd half goal to see everyone erupt behind the goals.
Even last week at Lakeside Stadium when Football Australia was running the event, they hardly had any food trucks or other food outlets or a DJ etc.

I was very surprised to hear that too about free entry for those wanting to pay cash!

Today was a massive day for South Melbourne. Back in May we were looking at relegation and now 7 months later we’re the best team outside the A League.

Massive win. The team was superb in the first 20 minutes. We just didn’t let Marconi relax on the ball and applied constant pressure. Manny Aguek is made for big matches and showed his class.

Crowd was much bigger than 4,667 given so many entered for free.

Commiserations to Marconi who did well to reach the Grand Final. They are a good team.

I thought being an fa run game that they'd be absolutely strict at the gate. I almost felt guilty walking straight in. Its comical how poorly the game is run that lots and lots of people can watch a grand final for free.

Come to Edensor Park if you think its easy. 😂

How much does South Melbourne spend on wages a year?

You get the feeling that after that initial chaotic feeling out phase of play you get in the first 10 minutes of big games like these Marconi were just starting to get their foot on the ball and try to settle into some rhythm during that sequence when maya essentially played aguek a through ball. Again, he had a lot to do still and did very well to finish, not every player or team in this comp would have made Marconi pay there.

A lot has been made of the fact that Marconi are a very different prospect when they go behind vs when they’re grinding out a result or are able to get ahead, since the loss of temelkovski probably don’t have the fire power up front to chase games, that’s why that first goal was so important, the game plan coming in would have been essentially out the window after that. Marconi couldn’t really adapt. Hellas’ tails were up and you’re chasing the game away from home in front of a big vocal crowd. I know the majority of goals do come from mistakes in some shape or form and I don’t want to seem like I’m blaming it all on one player, but geez, that was some through ball from Maya at a vital moment of the game. As bozza often says. “Men and moments”. You’ve shot yourselves in the foot and never even given yourselves a chance when you concede so early away from home like that. Would have required an instant reply which wasn’t forthcoming. Just frustrating when it feels like marconi never even got out of the blocks and it wasn’t as good a contest as it could have been Ala the game v Heidelberg at the palace

I think South went into it knowing that it had to be a good start. Tsekenis spoke of "robbing" the grand final from South. If Marconi scores first its a different ball game if they have something to defend, South snuffed that out pretty quickly and managed the game well from that point.
Marconi's best period was leading up to Half Time. They went the 'knuckle' so to speak.

I had a feeling our coaching staff would make the necessary adjustments at half time to nullify this. The referee was allowing alot of rough stuff from Marconi to go unpunished, and once we responded in kind the referee to his credit stayed consistent and did not blow his whistle.

My nerves dissipated after the 70th minute mark. Marconi had nothing left to give.

As well as tsekenis has done up front, Marconi lacked an out and out goal scorer this season, that’s probably the main reason Marconi won the npl last year but not this year imo. Have said it once, and I’ll say again, never replaced temelkovski, what a striker. Also jesic offers less and less every season going forward inevitably as he gets older

Hellas deserving and fitting inaugural winners

Swibel was absolutely useless too but he is a good striker
