Joey is off to Saints. He clearly didn’t cut it. It’s a shame because he had that old fashioned halfback style.
Flanno's son might end up playing hooker, something that should have happened 2 years ago.

I think Glover has left saints. Glover was a dogs lower grade half, apparently pretty good.

Flanno could handle hooker but more likely off the bench. Defence will be found out. Hayward might end up the same, but that kid is fit so who knows.

We need to be patient again next year. We are still another year away from being premiers. So much talent coming through. We have a chance at doing a repeat of the Panthers.

Spending big money now could kill team spirit. We have a hard training ethos which promotes the best from within. Juniors are excited to sign with us. Like at Melbourne and Penrith.

All could be ruined if we sign a Lat Mitchell type who trains like shit. Galvin fits in because he is our fittest player. Leo fits in because he doesn’t ever give up in training sessions. If we could sign Teddy I would be all in. His work ethic is amazing incredible. But I’m happy to wait and keep the team happy.

I am optimistic about Hayward.

Marhoney might be a stronger defender, but i am expecting Hayward to improve rapidly.

Haywatd has more class in attack. I remember setting up trys with great passes and kicks in reseeve grade. At this stage he is more of a run threat than Marhoney.

I think that the back up GCCT, Turpin and Young will be adequate.

I’m on and off. Hayward has the fitness and the work ethic. Even more so than Mahoney, which in itself is amazing. But he was found out playing long minutes at the end of the year. I’m not convinced. Next year will tell us if he is that player. If not we just need to continue finding options at nine.

Who should we buy? Nobody on the market is better than Tracey for next year. How do you not understand this. Maybe you should be supporting the Chickens.
Mate, players come onto the market every year or two and we either choose to not chase them or choose to drop out of the race when the kitchen gets too hot.

Its been the same for all spine positions for the last 25 odd years.

Unless we sneakily begin talks or work behind the scenes to get one, we dont get our target.

Who should we buy? Well ive seen Pappy, Turbo, Walsh, CNK, Ponga, Brimson, Campbell etc all go on market last few years and we've turned a blind eye so what's the point in naming players.....

If Flanno takes their starting hooker role, we should move heaven and earth to try to get Jacob Liddle.

He's a gun player in the Tom Starling mould that doesnt deserve to be second fiddle.

Big fan of Teddy.
Always a professional and is at the top of his game.

The only way we would get Teddy is when the Roosters no longer wanted him.

I can't see us ever signing Walsh, if he ever leaves the Broncos, the Roosters are the most likely destination.

If a good fullback comes on the market and we csn fit them in the salary cap, we will sign them.

We are not going to sign an overpriced fullback, totally screw our cap, shed a lot of good players and end up back at the bottom of the table.

I’m confident we tried to sign every player you listed. I’m also confident we didn’t miss out from not paying overs. We missed out because the players had no intention of signing with us.

I like Liddle. He was close to signing with us last time. Might be a chance. But he is hardly a gun player.

Stop speaking common sense. I want to win now!!!

The value of developing players is.

1. By the time they make the NRL side they understand the team culture and whst is required.
2. They develop combinations with other players over many years in the lower grades.
3. We have many years to improve their game and understand what can't be improved.
4. We know what kind of person they are and what drives them.
5. They will offen sign for the club for a bit less.
6. They have mates at the club and that motivates them.
7. They know the team style in attack and defence.
8. We can build their strength and fitness.

Occasionally there is a spine plsyer who is elite and is worth signing.

Rod Silva is the last one we signed and Thurston is the last one we lost.

Burton is close to elite but is not quite elite as a spine player.

Averillo still might turn jnto a player we regret losing.

At the time we signed Silva the Roosters didn't want to keep him.

All of 1.-8. Above is far more important for spine players and lock is another important position. Some other positions have fewer combinations to form and the role is the same at all clubs.

The Roosters have had occasionsl success importing spine players, mostly teams win comps with locally developed spine players.

Sharks with Barba and Ennis are another exception.

Budgen, Joe Thomas?, Silva and the General are the only spine imports i can think of in dogs teams that won comps. Silva is the only elite talent in that list.

Exactly.

We signed Ricky at the end of his career and he failed to get us a premiership.

We signed Kimmorley at the end of his career and he failed too.

Last time we made the GF we had Reynolds and Hodkinson. Sometimes it’s best to buy young talent or juniors and develop them.

I have a good feeling about where the club will be in the next five years. We will be fighting for a few premierships. If things go to plan we will win at least one.

Hes an instinctive player that plays eyes up footy. Something desperately lacking from our spine over the years, but hopefully Galvin changes that along with Woods, when the time comes.

I am interested to see why Young was promoted to top 30 and if he plays any NRL this year.

My hunch is similar to Woods.

We have great players in every position in the lower grades, the question is if they transition.

I remember watching Ricky Stewart's Dogs flegg side, Thurston, SBW, Jason Williams, Asatosi?, Ben Harris, Trent Cutler, Andrew Amelio, Johno Johnston, not all of these guys made it.

At the time there was a lot of hype around Johnston, i turned up to watch him play, and saw Thurston.

I've seen enough from Galvin and Woods they are good enough. IMO Cocherane and Bryenton also look like exciting fullback prospects.

It took 5 minutes for Thurston to impress me, and it took 3 minutes for Bryenton to impress me. Thurston also progessed far beyond what i initially saw, but that was no surprise.

I am all for signing a player if that player is better than all young players at the club or if the young players will not be ready for a few years.

If i think a young player at the club can be just as good in 1-2 years I don't sign the player. Becuase if all goes well we will get 10 seasons out of the young guy.

No he is not. Stop talking shit. He was instructed to attempt to change momentum and run whenever possible. Most interchange hookers do this.

Bryenton looks very good. But carving up in that grade happens a lot and often results in nothing. But I’m pretty excited about him too. Just not prepared to expect too much. I can’t wait to watch him in cup in the next couple of years. If he kills them in reserves like he is killing them in the schoolboys he should be first grade material.
