They should leave the sheila's in the desert. However, if the kids where born here, and were taken there, we have a obligation to return them here. It's our problem unfortunately.

If the sheila had a kid there, they can all stay.

As much as you'd want to you can't make someone stateless if they were born here. If she's Australian born, she's an Australian.

and again

The Act (section 36C) states that the court may make an order to cease a person’s Australian citizenship if:

  • the person is aged 14 years or over
  • the person is a dual national
  • the person has been convicted of one or more serious offences
  • the court has imposed a period or periods of imprisonment that total at least 3 years or more, and
  • the conduct the offence relates to is so serious and significant that it demonstrates that the person has repudiated their allegiance to Australia.
Section 36C of the Citizenship Act sets out the serious offences relevant to citizenship cessation. These offences show a clear link to the breaking of the common bond. This shows that a person has repudiated their allegiance to Australia.

Serious offences specified in the Act, are provided under the Criminal Code and include:

  • certain terrorism offences including breaches of Extended Supervision Orders and Interim Supervision Orders
  • treason
  • espionage
  • foreign interference
  • advocating mutiny
  • foreign incursions and recruitment offences
  • certain explosives and lethal devices offences.

Last I heard Australia had declared ISIS (in all its regional flavours) a terrorist organisation, no better than any of the other nut-jobs around the world our armed forces are fighting.

Was just wondering what your definition of 'treason' was.

Isn't treason an act against your own country? Is going off fighting in another country's wars ispso facto treason against Australia?

I notice that doesn't include 'born here'. For people born here though can citizenship can be revoked?

Has that been done before ever?

yeah I completely understand. But if they don't have passports anymore, I wouldn't be rushing to verify their status.

With kids though, it's not their fault their parents are complete fuckheads, nor is it Syria/The kurds problem.

I doubt that any of the women coming back are any less radicalised.

ipso faco? Wanna redacto?

My opinion doesn't really count, the Constitution of Australia, I believe, considers treason any act of harm or intent to promote harm against the Commonwealth of Australia ... Acts of war against two other sovereign nations would be considered crimes or war crimes or whatever the case may be.

I honestly don't know.... I was born here and am a dual citizen. Do you think I would have the right to return to Australia if for some, clearly hypothetical situation, I decided to leave the country and fight for Greece against Australian armed forces?

I'm not so sure there are all that many ISIS brides around. I actually think the whole ISIS brides thing was maybe a bit overblown....

And there's probably not that many foreign born neo-nazi's around either!

Plus all these young Australian so-called neo-nazi's are just deluded young men jumping on a bandwagon, not a particularly nice bandwagon granted, but a bandwagon all the same.

The Third Reich isn't coming to Australia anytime soon.

On another note and talking about hard or far right politics...

Supposedly this Reform Australia Party is following the lead of Reform UK, a sort of anti-immigration party led by the anti-establishmentist and 'Brexit' initiating Nigel Farage. Now the political situation in the UK is extremely volatile at the moment. The 2 main political establishment parties Labour and the Conservatives have both completely tanked in the opinion polls and Reform is flying with about 30-35% of the electorate saying they will vote for them at the next general election. That's enough for them.to win government!!

In fact in one particular poll the Labour Party, currently in Government has crashed to 15% - their lowest ever rating since the first ever political poll was published opinion poll was published. It's working class voter base has well and truly abandoned the once representative of the Working Class....

And it's a similar story with the Conservatives. The middle England middle class voter has completely abandoned them...

There's been a massive backlash against the political establishment in the UK and Reform has jumped into tat space left by disillusioned voters..

I don't get anywhere near the same feeling in Australia. Sure, there's always going to be little bit of backlash against an incumbent government and sometimes an opposition but there doesn't seem to be any outright hatred towards the political establishment here.

So any Australian Reform style political entities would be limited to the margins I'd guess.

I don't know that's why I'm asking.

in that situation I would presume it would be considered treason and my citizenship would be revoked.

During both world wars, dual citizens of combatant nations where interned for the duration, often even though they were born here.. thats one form of denying citizenshipo I guess?...
