Hopefully the Jacob Eliopoulos signing is the third choice and we sign another partner for Jankovic to replace Marshall otherwise we’ll be in trouble next season
Thats exactly my thinking aswell.. he has potential to be a great fit if he can prove himself fit longterm, but we have to hit the ground running this season in 2 more comps and then another championship to boot.. last thing we want to see is having to constantly drag giannkop back to fill that spot and lose half the bite combo in the midfield..
Anton Mlinaric (although almost impossible to pry away perhaps) is a player with NPLVic experience that could not only star but marshal (pardon the pun) our defence entirely.

Mlinaric is a gun and should be the first option we contact and go down the list from there

Marconi is said to be reducing its wage bill by 40% next season, so we could offer him a decent weekly salary. Depends on what he does for everyday work.

One of the positive impacts from this competition is that good players from smaller clubs in Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra will be snapped up by NPL NSW and NPL VIC teams.

This may provide us opportunities to go shopping.

Who would we want to look at from other teams?

If Johnny A goes to Central Coast Mariners, it may open the door for South to pick up a quality player or two (assuming they're not tied to a long-term contract or they follow Johnny A to the Mariners).

Should be noted that, if true, it would be a 40% reduction from what has been a well above average wage bill/one of the highest wage bills outside the a league. Even before the wage reduction rumours its been alleged that this might be the last hoorah for this core squad as it’s been for the last couple of years and the beginning of a new player cycle

Appreciate the context @Glenardo.

Down here in Victoria, we've been raiding the NPL QLD competition for years. You don't see many NSW players coming down here, as most players would receive similar wages between both states.

Moving forward for the 2026 Australian Championship competition, some clubs may look to interstate talent to strengthen squads, even if its just for the 9 weeks of the competition.

He really does resemble like tony the Yugoslav
When he was first announced its was used as a bit of a criticism against the bloke, NOW most of us love him to pieces.... If nothing else, he gave us back a bit of pride in ourselves and it shows both on and off the pitch.

I dont know what the vibe was like in 2015 when Marconi went down but the looks on peoples faces in April/May down here was soul crushing.

I'll keep saying this that Marconi are a good team. They drew at home to Heidelberg and narrowly lost at Olympic Village. They comfortably disposed of Wollongong at home. I would certainly not pay any attention to the away Wollongong result.

They were up against it when playing APIA but found a way to lead until very late into that quarter final.

This Grand Final match is different to the NPL Victoria Grand Finals we lost. We approached those matches trying to pinch results. This is a Grand Final that we must play to win. Go out and score first. Keep it tight at the back and try and control the midfield.

As I say, Marconi certainly not always a pretty team to watch, but capable of being very effective

I saw the heidelberg v marconi game at the village. Probably the most boring non south game i've seen this year. Hilton made a few saves and Marconi did absolutely nothing until about the 88th minute, but created 3 clear cut chances at the end and should have equalised. Heidelberg had rotated the team post Australia cup final though.

Everything points to a low scoring gf.
