The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

I think FVS seems like a winner over VAR. The coaches agree too, they don't feel so helpless on the sidelines and the power is in their hands to choose what to review.

The stream peaked around 6,800, very healthy.

Good game, very entertaining, bit of a slow burner, but built as the game went on, could feel the tension in the stands towards the end. I think Marconi played it well, but APIA had the better of the play overall imo. No doubt at full flight they’re the better ball playing team at present

Not wanting to preempt anything but you wonder which of the two would match up better against Avondale next week. APIA the more technical team, Marconi more gritty.

Maya..he’s got great technique and very good touches, but he’s such a silly ill disciplined player at times. Why would you do that, he had been riding his luck all second half, why get yourself sent off a couple of minutes before full time. Now Marconi have to play their toughest game yet without one of their best players..so dumb.

Akio was evident he was carrying a niggle on the ankle, you could see he wasn’t able to pivot on it the way he’d have wanted.

Overall great occasion, decent turnout, pretty much within the range I’d have expected heading in. I don’t want to hear anymore that “Italian clubs are low”

As a side note; would have been better if it was at the Marconi club..just saying

In the general forum there is a thread to ask questions of Nathan Godfrey who worked on the championship at the FA for the last few years

Congrats G and Marconi.
Well said - we were the better team on the ball no doubt but defense wins more so your GK.
He had a top season and backed it up !
I’ll say chances again - he saved a few first half and watching already said he’s motm for you - fancy I was right..
Both keepers pulled some great saves through the match and my the pens.
Jnr Kalac will be skewing his take was woeful but we blew it before not finishing.
What a night !
Congrats G

You'd be spewing if you were APIA spent all that money on and off the field only to be knocked out in the quarter finals.

Marconi are that grubby side that always fight and have a great GK. Maya, as good as he is, the brain explosions dont help him or his side.

You spew when you lose pretty natural for all of us but I’m glad to see APIA went all in seized the chance to enhance supporters to come along which was great to see.
Leichardt ticks the box’s perfectly might I add last night was spot on - looked like the pizza truck was pumping them out.
Maya was asking for it all game.
Marconi are not pretty to watch at all.
Just dogged team with the best GK atm.
Without him they were done and can only blame ourselves - our fancy play sometimes our own downfall.
Enjoyed the championship a lot from APIA perspective now I need to back G’s mob and turn up at the Palace..

Great game with an incredible ending. I think Marconi will be hosting a semi next week.
If it is at the Marconi club I dare say for contractual reasons it’ll be on midday/early afternoon Saturday as per the sbs broadcast agreement. Probably not ideal/not what they’d have chosen if they had free rein to organise the fixture to maximise crowd numbers/exposure. As I said a few days ago, wanderers v Sydney fc Sydney derby on that same day at parramatta. But it is what it is

Was good to get the pizza and the giotto gelato trucks in, as I say that’s what Leichhardt was missing, they needed to organise something like that. When I was at the Italian festival in Leichhardt a few weeks back I was thinking any number of these food trucks would be perfect to organise for an APIA game

I watched the 2nd half.

Shouldn’t that Marconi player have been sent off for that handball? Then the APIA defender DID foul the Marconi player.

By then the whole thing was a shemozzle
