Poppa Out

I'd love to see Sapsford in November if he continues his form.
I think Stama might be an option as he should be good in the press and is lively in the box.
Yengi has always done fairly well in a Roos top, it's a shame it hasn't gone very well for him so far at Aberdeen.
Hope Botic can get some more goals and press for a spot.
I'll admit I haven't seen much in game play of Goodwin but we will need a lot more well more than poaching from our striker at the WC.

We need someone else to go on a tear and really force Popa's selection.

Popovic - Players are called up to their first Socceroos camp for experience, not to get caps

Also Popovic - here you go Italiano, you can start in your first camp even as a late call up
Yeah what the actual F - maybe he just wanted to save Miller for the US game.
It's simply too late to revert to a back 4 I find. The system just about works. It does suck with what we sacrifice further up but the extra cover has proved immensely effective.

It's also not to say we don't or can't attack. We had a lot of breaks against Canada only to be complacent. More kill is needed.
I'd love to see him play a 4 4 2 - but hey, he's getting the results with the current structure, so why change it. The only thing I don't like about Tony's management is that he still plays his boys - no way Arzani comes on after playing 18 mins this season, instead of Devlin who's one of the form midfielders in Scotland this season. Cammy would've been perfect to close out the game, instead of letting them back in it over the closing stages.

Zero chance.
And zero chance he isn't in charge of the next campaign. This thread is pretty redundant for a minimum couple of years.
Strap in for Popa ball.
I think there's definitely a world where if we dish up the absolute dross from today at the WC and get pants and bundled out...he very well could and should get marched.

Imagine the live sites all gathered around watching that...and not getting the saving last minute goal.

Popaball's ethos is literally living on a prayer.

Actually I agree. Zero chance prior, but small possibility after. But it would have to be accompanied by some appalling blow outs.

Does he need a club stint? What timeline do you think?
I would be more than happy for Morgan to take over post WC if we play so poorly that Popa gets booted.

At least we know he will set the team up to express themselves and actually PLAY SOME FOOTBALL.

I'd be more than happy for him to be replaced now. That was dire. There i s no plan B. He now has a worse winning percentage after a poor performances covered by slight wins often against the run of play than Arnold did from 2018 to 2024.

I was against him from the start but credit to him for qualifying but this drivel is going to destroy the national team reputation for a decade or.more.

Win or play good football. Lose and play crap with crap tactics that no-one will watch and you need to be shown the door.

If I was the FA he has one game to turn it round. A win playing good football or he can go.

definitely imo

what happens if he needs to play hardball with a player threatening not to start him unless he trains better. He'd lose the dressing room if he isn't used to coaching adults

Yeah it's possible to make that transition in theory. But I agree it's a big change managing men.

I think that's a little unfair. I mean he's 54 and clearly would have coached adults before. Years and years of adults I'm sure.

I personally don't think it's necessary, and he will bring immense international management experience that Popa had zero of.

Arnie was 44 years old which is old enough when taking over the asian cup squad in 2007 but in his recollection the players didn't respect him. He also had youth results straight way, being a rare coach to qualify us through asia (like morgan). It wasn't until he coached sydney fc a few years that he was ready for the roos

At least Popa has played a lot of players since he has been coach.

Good to see Elder get a run - at last.
But he's refused to play players that most Aussie football fans wanted to see - Triantis (now lost), Segacic (when in form), Robertson, Sapsford (instead chose a player that's scored 5 goals in 3 years -A Toure), Devlin etc etc
