Laughable.

30 seconds of listening to any player/pundit spouting nonsense about a ref's decision shows you they have no clue.

Fowler crapping on the other day about the offside that he thought wasn't interfering is a perfect example.
Oh, sorry, and you are the expert, are you?

Some people sure like to think they are and their opinion somehow counts double or in the case of FFA training, triple...

But for the rest of the universe, sometimes decisions ARE murky as fuck and should be rightly discussed and questioned.

One thing this shows is that having ex-players running VAR isn't necessarily going to improve the situation. Jay Bothroyd demonstrates in this video that he has little idea about the detail and intent of the laws of the game and how VAR is meant to operate and intervene.

Edit: Also, and this is neither here nor there, he comes across as a bit of a fuckwit!

Yeah Suminic's rugby tackle on Viduka would surely have been called.

Kewell was definitely offside.

I reckon Schwarzer had a fair shout too for the barge the Japanese bloke put on him for their goal. His fault for not being strong enough but a VAR look could have seen it scrubbed.
I really wonder about Kewell's position once the camera is straight on. What looks offside on an angle is then shown to be either much less or more than it appears.

Didn’t think Jay Bothroyd came across as a fuckwit at all. Thought he clearly and calmly made his points and expressed his opinions. And I agreed with them.

Schwarzer said in a German newspaper at the time that the ref apologised to him at halftime for not seeing the barge when the Japanese goal happened.

So I wonder if that coloured the ref's thinking when the Timmy Cahill lunge occurred?
I think it could be part of it. At the 2:1 celebration the ref is smiling to send out players back to the centre circle. He has a sense of relief on his face if you ask me.

So, are you saying , the referee was a cheat ?

Of course the best use of VAR in 2006 would have been the Neill penalty. The ref (Cantelayo) must have been horrified at his own actions for sending off (rightly) the Italian player. He would have been aware that, just like the teams, it's a Darwinian Struggle to stay in the tournament for the refs. Fewer are needed as teams are knocked out, and he would have been worried about upsetting the Italians.

So when Grosso took two extra steps to change direction and then left a trailing leg to fall over Lucas's prone body, Cantelayo must have been thinking: "Gracias senor Neill! Gracias!" before blowing for a ridiculous penalty.

We would have won that game in extra time.

Fantasy at its finest, thank you for giving me a little giggle.

Was Materazzi really a red? Was it more the challenge or DOGSO? I felt there were other Italians around to cover.
