ALM/W TV deal

Yes, ive just had a look

Eddie 'Everywhere' McGuire owns JAM TV....

Also

Wanted to play at Docklands, had to pay AFL.
Want to produce you're own show? Have to pay Eddie.
It's nightmare stuff.

It's not so much the cost of buying tv rights that will hinder any future A League deal, more the cost of production of games...

When Stan buy tv rights to say the Champions League they know that once they've signed the deal that will include the cost of production too.

All they do is pick up the world feed and stream it on their platform. Unless they're doing a studio show of course but I've noticed on CL nights they just take the UK TNT Sports studio show pre and post game, rather than Bozza and Fozza talkin' shyte....

With the A League they'd have to produce the entire operation. That can be just as expensive as buying the tv rights when you add it all up.

CH10 and the APL share production costs for the AL and they outsource it. There is no reason why any other potential bidders can't do the same.

7 years ago Foxtel produced the A-League and paid $350m over 4 years until Covid came around and screwed us out of the deal a year later. With the cost of living and inflation going up we are yet to see the likes of that kinds of money with production at all since.
Production cost cum out of the current TV deal and id say it isn't cheap.

Which is what.will have to happen of course. It’s going to be an interesting scenario to see where the A League end up.

If I was a betting man, which I am I'd say P+ and Ch10 at a slightly reduced price.

Unless Foxtel owners DAZN see something in the A League that the old Foxtel management didn't.

Wouldn't be surprised if they drop the TV deal down to $100m over 6 years.

To be honest, I'd like to see them go away from legacy broadcast TV all together. Doesn't matter which channel gets a game or two a week, the numbers simply are not going to rise. The eyeballs simply are not there and they are not going to suddenly appear. In general, people under 40 do not watch broadcast TV and with each generation that number grows. Even the boomers have drifted towards streaming services because the programming on legacy TV is so woeful. Football needs to look to the future not the past.

You thinking YouTube then?

YouTube is great for the end user, great for accessibility, great for discoverability but not so great from a monetization point of view. The YouTube business model isn't really suited for live sports. It is interesting that they don't implement a specific tier and service for live sports. There would have to be a way that it makes sense for everyone.

The rumour going around at the end of last season was a 2 year extension on the same money to coincide with the end of the Socceroos/Matildas deal.

IMO, they should be asking for more money with ratings going up in recent years.

I always wondered if this was the direction they were thinking of heading when they created KeepUp

I have TNT Sports , it's actaully crazy how many codes of Aussie sport it has.

The fragmentation of the streaming market is now its defining feature.

It makes logical sense for 9/Stan to acquire the A League, but whether there is a commercial argument is another question. The long-term interests of APL definitely align with 9/Stan, not Ten, which faces, at best, an uncertain future.

Would be sweet to have this sort of coverage with the camera angles, choose whichever stadium camera from 360 degrees!

So it's between ESPN/SBS v 10/Paramount
- No interest from Nine/Stan
- Foxtel can't bid because of Conroy
-😂Seven😂
- 😂ABC😂
- Netflix/ HBOmax/ Prime or any other stream provider ???
