True true JS96 - having been accosted of my approach towards NM in another thread I have come to accept and embrace NM's idiotic predictions as just twisted humour I need to sit back think breath and exhale - good for the soul and besides 9.99 out of 10 he is pissanting.

Really look forward to these games heap of unkowns for us great test.
I didnt mean to acost u, was just curious if there was more than what met the eye going on

Here are three long time servants that should be in this squad if fit. Behich, Goodwin and Leckie. I think some of the older guys that Popovic gave a cap to a year or so ago (eg Caceres, Brattan) probably shouldn't be there, but maybe Popovic will want to have one more look at them before he discards them. I think that leaves 4/5 spots for any who put their hands up. Any prospective wingbacks around? I think we need more depth in that position and perhaps a couple of defensive midfielders who are capable of providing links between the defence and the more forward players. I think we are ok with attacking players right now and I don't think I've thought that for around 12 years or so.
Agree with Behich, Goodwin and Leckie. For the younger players I would add Jake Girdwood-Reich as a CB, Herrington (admittedly too young but for the friendlies window may not be a bad option), Badalato and Caputo.

We're really not exploring going back to Leckie, are we? Just no. His experience isn't invaluable. It's a liability because of complacency. He's just going to stumble over the ball or struggle to land a cross. Irankunda, Tilio, Arzani, Velupillay, Milanovic and others are just a bigger goal threat.

For young players we often say if you're good enough you're old enough. The good enough applies to older players as well. He deserves a chance to show if he is still good enough at that level. If not then it's OK to move on.

Fair point. A half against Venezuela should show it's time to move on. The World Cup is priority but a slight view to the Asian Cup means we need the next batch to be ready.

Why not? As a mid-fielder he is pretty solid, has the ball skills and the vision. He is injury prone but in an extended squad, I can't think of why not?

As a central midfielder? I know he's been converted to such a role but it's just a big no for me to start with these types of nostalgic experiments. We're absolutely stacked for talent in midfield and on the wing and they've delivered against solid opponents already. A big problem in the national team is the complacency drawn from what is essentially automatic selection. The squad has matured immensely without Behich and Irvine around.

all ok my friend, I said that in jest just reads terribly :)

I'm with you JS96, lets move on from leckie and Behich - benchies thats it.
Goodwin cuts it far better than both - more productive just I'm curious has he got the legs against more mobile/younger skilful opponents but he's worth giving a start up go.

Goodwin and nobody else makes my final squad from the AL. Maybe Badolato if he continues his current form and we've often in the past seen a wunderkind emerge just before the WC Finals. That said, what price Badolato goes to Europe in January given his current form.

I guess Genreau is also a chance but has a lot of ground to make up and some decent players in his position ahead of him.

He'd be better than Hrustic who I don't think should be included, I'd even prefer to see Sapsford.

I wouldn't be surprised if Badolato ends up making the move to a European league when the January transfer window rolls around especially given how well he's been running throughout the first two matchdays of A-League Men but likely he'll face greater competition for a spot in the squad going into the World Cup should he go overseas though.

Defensive injuries for Circati, Bos, Italiano and did I read Behich?

Iredale, Elder, Davidson in the mix. Rowles and Geria with bigger stocks this window.

Wouldn't mind experimenting park with McGree as a LWB inverted and Irankunda at RWB. A bit like Japan play with a back 3 and 2 defensive mids. Just need Devlin and Balard to start for coverage and stamina and a back 3 of Rowles Burgess and Geria or Degenek Burgess and Iredale.

Yes. And all of a sudden the LWB is looking rather thin.

We played Germany with Wilkinson and De Vere and did very well. This is an opportunity for the next players to step up and many new inclusions don't look out of place.

On the bright side Irvine will be back with some leadership. Surely Elder finally gets a call up. Iredale should too.

Stensness might get called up due to his versatility. Argentina in China his last call up?
