General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

Crowd for the f3 not out yet, but 3 out of 4 crowds bigger than the teams first crowd from last year

The Collective has live audio broadcasts, replays and highlights of A-League matches:

While the crowds in round 1 were okay, round 2 is already looking shaky.

City, Nix and Macarthur all with home games, Macarthur on a Monday night with no public holiday or school holidays.

City will be lucky to get 5k.

yeah need to compare like with like and look at the averages for the first home games for these clubs last season to get a fair comparison

Genreau played well in the first 60 mins of MV v Auck game. He has improved.

I was disappointed Valadon didn't impose himself more.

The MV line up before the game suggested MV played a 4-4-2, but with the ball it manifested as a 4-2-3-1.

Was disappointed with Brook for Auckland. He has made no improvement and even looks to have gone backwards since leaving WSW.

Esposito is doing quite well for such a young CB. He needs to tackle with his right foot at times when he sliding tackles though, not his preferred left foot.

I think if championship prospers a league will benefit as well
in the short term it would mean cheaper a league standard players
Ideally there can be at least some managed p&r between a 1st and 2nd tier. Not sure if it is politically possible. But that would boost crowds for the bottom few teams as well as growing yoyo clubs

Even in the hodge podge p&r era we had, we actually did see a boost to lower teams

this is a quick graph I made from 7 years from each era where the league size was as close as possible to the same size to compare like with like. I skipped covid years of course

Answered my own question

Kind of impressive this jump happened while the championship launched. Really strong evidence for mine that the championship crowds are dormant fans rather than converted A league fans

I think the Championship hype has actually woken up the A-League fans that the season is starting.

But not only that but if championship is hot then people will follow a league as well. If npl players do well they will play in a league I believe the two are linked and if the sport becomes popular it benefits both competitions.

That's why I roll my eyes when both fans fight with each other they are two legs on the same body

except one leg is amputated at the knee and NOT allowed to compete at the top level because of ..... well.... something?
