Big Ange thread

Hate that I was proven right on this one. Ange might have damaged his stock quite a bit here. He get's a nice payout, but his reputation as a top quality manager has taken a huge hit. Not sure who takes a punt on him now.

“ Top quality managers “ don’t normally get sacked twice in less than five months. The EPL was a step too far, with his one system only game plan.

Has it common that it was a basket case organisation. Greek club football is chaos as is seemingly ownership.

Popovic's time in Turkey simply doesn't count as it was the weirdest thing going.
Everything counts, basket case or not.

Ange Ange Ange……
I’m sorry to see but I really wondered what was in your head taking that gig.
Talk about going right into the frying pan.
Us novice punters could see this wasn’t going to work out you were a dead man walking from the get go.
Real shame is all else I’ll say.
It could’ve worked. It’s not like he was taking over a basket case club. Looking at that team, they have some very good players all over the field. I’m actually a bit surprised he struggled so badly. A period of adjustment would be normal, but this was just spectacularly bad. They suddenly forgot how to defend, couldn’t score and couldn’t win. It was a disaster. If he’d just beaten Burnley and Swansea, he probably would have got a bit longer, but he couldn’t even manage that bare minimum. Their form under him was simply untenable.

What the hell, Ange? Last PL season at Tottenham was incredibly awful, but there were extenuating circumstances. They couldn’t stop getting injured and he was a victim of gross underinvestment into the squad. The squad was actually very thin. And he still won Europa and got them into CL. But then he went to Forest and continued on exactly the same trajectory with a significantly better squad and no injury crisis. This one’s completely on him, I’m afraid. Not sure how he could bungle it so badly and so quickly. Very disappointing.

Agree with other posts that this has really damaged his reputation. I was confident after he left Spurs that we'd see him back in the EPL, but there is no chance we'll see him back now. Clubs just wouldn't take the risk. Curious at to where he pops up next.

The final was between the 17th and 18th teams in the EPL, yes high-quality trophy, that is mocked in European circles.

And how do you think i am bitter ?
You come across as unnecessarily harsh and quite condescending. You consistently minimise Ange’s achievements and seem to bask in his failures. It’s just irritating. It does make you sound bitter.

By your logic, only teams that finish in the top half of their leagues should win European titles. Why didn't Lazio, Bilbao, Roma, Eintract, Lyon, Ajax, Sociedad, Galatasary, Porto...then win the comp?

Mocked in european circles? Clubs in that comp are desperate to win it because it gives them entry to the UCL and a massive pay day.

I don't think you're bitter, you are. You continuously downplay any of Anges success and always attack him. You've never once given him credit despite his record showing he has achieved success at almost every club he has been at. Not to mention his success with the National Team.

Because the SPL is a two horse race, I consider 2nd as the bottom half of the table. If Rangers won in 2022, then it wouldn't have counted either ;)

My point proven. It is not a high priority.

I support United. Despise Liverpool, yet I can still respect what Shankly achieved at Liverpool. Being a rival is one thing, being unable to acknowledge others is different. Ange could win 5 UCLs in a row and you would still find some way of hating him, simply because he coached Celtic.

If anything you've proven just how much tougher than EPL is than those other leagues. For a manager in their 2nd season to win a European trophy, whilst balancing a raft of injuries and backlash, is quite an achievement

The other famous short stint in English football was Brian Clough at Leeds. And he ended up at …. Notts Forest

There’s a chance that he thought the Forrest job might be his last crack at the Prem and he’d never get another offer so can understand why he jumped at it but it’s gone against him.

i was hoping he’d take a sabbatical after Spurs, reassess and then take the Japan NT job if it came up.
