AFC east/west split & OFC

The east/west split might be on!
Early days, and good luck getting it past FIFA.

Would love to face both South Korea and Japan every world cup qualification which is more likely if we have an east west split. Also, more matches in oz timezone which probably boosts the values of the socceroos

Absorb Oceania. What happens with Central Asia?

This is how I broke it down last year (but does include some of UEFA coming over…)

I’d be in favour of- after confirming that the Middle East haven’t bought all the World Cup slots and playing Iran in a WCQ

While I hate the drama of West Asia, the facilities and infrastructure are top notch.

Qualifying was done well this time. Smaller groups aren't good. Like UEFA this time round it's short and rushed. I wish Australia drew teams like Malaysia or Mongolia for a change. The Japan Saudi 3 times in a row is really boring.

Actually its four times in a row. It's just that for 2014 we drew Saudi Arabia in round 2 and Japan in round 3.
And then that means for Japan, 5 times in a row. 6 if we count the World Cup finals for 2006 too.

FAKE NEWS : Iraqi outlet UTV reports that JFAフットサル plans to leave the Asian Football Confederation over dissatisfaction with its policies.

The Saudi Arabia centered ACL Elite format, controversial rulings against Vissel Kobe, and alleged corruption within the AFC have reportedly angered the JFA.

Japan is said to be exploring the creation of a new East Asian Confederation with South Korea, North Korea, and China , potentially inviting Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand to join.

So was going to say, the most easiest way to do this split (without taking nations from any other confederations except Oceania) is to go by the sub-confederations that AFC currently have.

If we count Oceania as a new 'sub-confederation' it can effectively be split 3-3 down the middle (West, South and Central stay, with ASEAN, East and Oceania forming the new "Pacific Football Confederation").

The "Pacific Football Confederation" would have the following 31 full FIFA members:
  1. Australia
  2. Brunei
  3. Cambodia
  4. Timor-Leste
  5. Indonesia
  6. Laos
  7. Malaysia
  8. Myanmar
  9. Philippines
  10. Singapore
  11. Thailand
  12. Vietnam
  13. China
  14. Chinese Taipei
  15. North Korea
  16. Guam
  17. Hong Kong
  18. Japan
  19. South Korea
  20. Mongolia
  21. American Samoa
  22. Cook Islands
  23. Fiji
  24. New Caledonia
  25. New Zealand
  26. Papua New Guinea
  27. Samoa
  28. Solomon Islands
  29. Tahiti
  30. Tonga
  31. Vanuatu
New Asia would be the following 25:
  1. Afghanistan
  2. Iran
  3. Kyrgyzstan
  4. Tajikistan
  5. Turkmenistan
  6. Uzbekistan
  7. Bangladesh
  8. Bhutan
  9. India
  10. Maldives
  11. Nepal
  12. Pakistan
  13. Sri Lanka
  14. Bahrain
  15. Iraq
  16. Jordan
  17. Kuwait
  18. Lebanon
  19. Oman
  20. Palestine
  21. Qatar
  22. Saudi Arabia
  23. Syria
  24. United Arab Emirates
  25. Yemen
In terms of men's World Cup Qualifying, between the two at the moment (Oceania and Asia), they get 9.66 qualifying slots.

Used to be in the group with chinese Taipei, Nepal (similar to Mongolia)

In the group with Vietnam, Thailand , Indonesia (similar to Malaysia)
Sure yet we didn't play in Ulaanbaatar or Kuala Lumpur. I don't think we've drawn Turkmenistan yet. We seem to get Oman a lot.

Assuming numbers (therefore, Pacific gets 5 slots + 1 playoff, and New Asia gets 4 slots + 1 playoff), and also assuming only 1 round - qualifying groups would probably be something like this

NEW ASIA - I've stuffed something up somewhere because I've got 26 instead of the 25 I thought, but oh well - same sorta thing.

Yeah I did almost the same thing for this (just checked my spreadsheet for this is three years old 😳). I've spotted that you left out Macau from your Pacific list, and put Mongolia in the New Asia pots.

In the East, I'd like to see something like this. A play-in with the lowest 20 nations, 4 groups of 5, play each other once. I don't want to expose Guam to 30-nil Japan beltings. Top 2 from each group join the top 12 ranked east nations. Then another 4 groups of 5 for the WC Qualifiers, double round-robin. Winner of each group goes to the WC. All four runner-ups can playoff for the rest. And similar thing for the West, albeit with less nations. While groups of 5 means there will be byes, it gives us some friendlies to experiment.
