The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Not bad considering opponent and kick off time. Not Marconi’s biggest crowd this season but similar sort of crowd to a bigger npl game

From this point forward 2,000 is decent i think. The start times are pretty crazy for this time of year. 1pm and 3pm in winter sure but post daylight savings everything should be in the evening.

It’s not exactly boiling up here, only 21-22 Celsius, perfect weather for any sport.

My pass mark for Australian Championship games:

1/ Play some good football
2/ Have some passionate supporters

Done.

Teams who perform poorly this year will surely have their sights set on doing better next year. It creates a base level that gives them focus and drive for the following year.

Teams who do well this year will not want to do worse next year - obviously.

All up, this is Year 1 of the Championship. Just like the Australia Cup it will build in importance over time.

Agreed. As it’s been said i think probably context and perspective will affect people’s perceptions. For those of us who have been following these clubs and attending matches in the state leagues over the past 20 years any increase on average crowd from that point will be seen as a plus. people who have never been to these grounds before or watched a match involving these clubs might come with a different perspective

Well that was embarrassing, hoping it wouldn't be, but it was men against boys.

Thats us done for the championship. Pissed off at the club, who tried so hard being a foundation club member for only to piss it up the wall and not give a fuck about it and now its all coming out.

The treatment of Away fans, the FA and police can hold there heads in shame. I dont think ill be attending for the rest of this tournament.

4,200 good crowd, solid support from both sides.
Wasn’t expecting that kind of performance from Sydney United, but I’m only starting through this competition to watch interstate teams. I feel for you guys copping this nonsense from Football Australia and NSW Police. It’s ridiculous how your club fans are being treated.

Not sure why people are dismissive of APIA. I thought they played well and passed the ball cleanly into attacking situations. They should finish top of the group.

Great crowd as well considering the torrential rain that hit Sydney late afternoon.

Coming to you live and unexclusive from Marconi Stadium. We filled up full of pizza, wine & gelato & am now ready for some football. Probably a couple of thousand here for the benefit of you obsessive crowd counters.
Decent crowd of 2,000 at Marconi. If you guys can keep it above 1,500 for next 2 home matches, that would be a good base to work from.

Agree - I’ve said this a few times. We need to have realistic expectations. A crowd of 2,0000 plus in a second tier competition is a good outcome and something to build on.

So far so good in the Australian Championship. Really looks like everyone is embracing the competition.

Much better than the cow paddock in Wollongong.
Without taking away from any of the positives already this round & one of the very few times i fully have to agree with Sutho, that pitch was shocking and at best for the lower divisions and not Championship. It especially reflected bad on tv image imo. All the hard work to get ppl through the doors and the attempt to grow the rusted on are positives, a fantastic wolves turnout and again credit to them, but that pitch screamed amateur to any neutrals watching it im sorry to say. Serious work needed to go in to show a better face. Is that wolves normal home venue?

No, normally they play at win stadium right in the middle of Wollongong and right on the beach, great venue. It’s the main stadium of Wollongong, what the Geelong afl stadium is to Geelong. Can’t remember the reason why they have to play here

APIA 4-0 Sydney United. Predictable result for those who have followed the clubs closely at npl level and given the ins and outs
I hope they go on and win in all.

Did a fantastic job on and off the field. Have shown professionalism and desire to win it.

Just didnt agree with the sponsor name change lol.
