The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

To get back to the Australian Championship, match of the round surely must be APIA vs Sydney United. APIA with a big win away to Metrostars and Sydney United conceding that really late equaliser.

APIA would go in as slight favourites.
It is funny - when you look at the Shouts every game has a clear favourite for the win. Some have a draw with some heavy backing but there is one club in every game that is considered weaker.

Unusual after only one round that the punters are aligning so much. I guess having them come off the NPL and Australia Cup so recently their form is a relative known factor.

Finally back to some football talk.

We have had the better of APIA, i think we only lost twice in our last 15 meetings.

However they will be heavy favorites tomorrow night.
I find it odd that APIA are such highly rated favourites given SU are the home team - even with APIA ending up higher in the NPL.

I was very tempted to back SU and would not be surprised if you pull off the win just to stick it up all our noses.

Edit: It looks like I got the home team wrong.

Apia vs utd & wolves vs bergers are the games of the round for me.. with both home sides as favourites.. I have feeling wolves will be the biggest challenge for bergers have to date as its away and they have recruited well.
I thought SU were the home team...?

Don't know where I got that idea.

More than slight imo, would have to be heavily favoured with United’s outs

We've had a major squad overhaul, majority through injuries. 3 of our CBs are out, players left etc

We have bought in 7 or 8 new players into this squad as replacements, and against Bayswater it was their first hit out together.

We are coming up against an APIA team, who didnt lose any player but gained 2 or 3, they are the champions and strongest club from NSW in my opinion.

i am just hoping we dont get embarrassed tomorrow night.

With those changes and challenges it would be silly to feel embarrassed if the game goes hard against you.

Imagine your kids coming home and saying they were so embarrassed because they did their best in a newly formed team but got beaten by a skilled and stable opposition. You wouldn't blink before telling them there is no embarrassment to losing in those circumstances.

How hard we are on our representatives in the grown up world.

You are not alone mind you. When your team is struggling and you lose to a better team by a record margin it is impossible to be subjective. Been there.

Sydney United sounds a bit like South Melbourne. We've signed 7 players and you can see the team needs more time to gel. Hence looking disjointed in the first half against Sydney Olympic.

Tbf i am unsure about Utd case and who how they recruited, hopefully its just matter of time and fhey come good, in our case we recruited very strongly and quite calculated which is credit to football departmnt. Players will need to gel for sure.

The nature of the game..harder not to be like that if your club has seen even moderate success....

Nah most of them just seem like squad players tbh apart from the Japanese guy. And they’ve lost key players including their captain who’s a lifelong clubman and heart of the team. Not only does he defend he often creates the play by distributing from the back. It’s a bit of a right off season tbh for united. They’ll be looking to go fresh next year and hopefully sign a couple of players I’d imagine

Hope its not what they are predicting, Hail Storms. FMD.
Feel bad for APIA too if so. their home cup game it was pouring, then this one potentially storms (for those outside Sydney, it’s barely rained for the last couple of months)

I think Koko will be a weapon when he gels with the team a bit....
