The Western United Thread

I don't understand we've got aus championship, socceroos and a league starting.

Who's thinking about western united

"Throughout the saga, United players supported each other through a group chat - and they will keep doing so despite being scattered around the country.
"I said when everything happened: 'we don't delete this group chat'," Garuccio said."

I am in two minds about that idea.

Great for support during the crisis - but continuing the group and the focus like WU is still relevant to those who have signed with other clubs seems off.

If a professional signs with my club (eg. Lauton) I expect WU to be history for him and I do not want him thinking about any possible WU re-emergence like it matters. No fondness for the old employer. If they come back they are the enemy like any other opposing club.

And smash your former WU brothers when you see them on the field. No secret handshakes and hugs in this game while the pitch is warm.

Bollocks. There is a limited amount of professional players in the local game and I can tell you they all know each other in some capacity. I can even say they some players like opposing players on a personal level more than they like some of their own team mates.

I assume you are replying to my comment.

I have no problem with players liking each other and having respect for each other. If they have played together and trained together there is sure to be a bond. When the game starts they are the enemy and you don't go in soft because they are your friend - that's sport.

After the game I expect them to shake hands, ignore what happened in the game or even laugh it off, and continue their friendship.

I am talking about holding a former opposition club dear to your heart to the extent that you might be imagining it coming back in a year or two and perhaps considering picking up with them again. I am knowingly reading that into the original statements even though it was not said.

To sign with a new club means the old club is dead in my harsh supporter eyes. I don't want their focus to be in any way on thoughts of getting the gang back together in a year or so.

The number of pricks I have heard moving to another club and saying "I always wanted to play/coach for my new club" - grrrrr. Never committing 100% in mind and body to the club that pays your salary (for the duration of your contract) stinks.

I think in this context, it was probably more about supporting those players that were not fortunate enough to get another contract.
