World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

10-man Qatar hold on and get the win against the UAE 2-1 to qualify directly for the World Cup for the first time on merit. UAE go through to the fifth round playoff where they'll play either Saudi Arabia or Graham Arnold's Iraq depending on how the group B fixture runs.

Not sure if Qatar could ever make a WC on merit given their antics. Got to say SE Asia is sadly underrepresented.

Sad for the region, but probably not underrepresented given the amount of oil dollarydoos the ME countries throw at this.
 
Saudi Arabia qualify for the World Cup directly after their game with Iraq finishes scoreless. Graham Arnold and Iraq into the fifth round playoff against the United Arab Emirates over two legs, with the winner of that going through to the inter-confederation playoffs.

To make sure it's fair, no doubt FIFA will play the first match in neutral Dubai and the second in neutral Abu Dhabi.

At least it's two legs. All the other confederations are having single leg playoffs (as well as the final continental playoffs)

I really wonder if he's even that nervous or concerned. He's a professional and wants to win but compared to managing Australia, he's probably much less fussed.
 
Don't like Saudi and Qatar there and don't like the extended world cup but the European arrogance towards Uzbekistan is frustrating. They've really earned their spot as have Cape Verde. Look at the African big guns vying for one spot. North Africa rolled their grounds.

Hope Uzbekistan turn heads.
