Football 360

So it's looking like written articles and video clips. With the emphasis being mainly on Australian football, both A League and Australian Championship plus Aussie's Abroad and Rebellious feminist will be happy to see that they are seriously covering women's football too.

Not a rival to this or the various club forums at all.

These clubs are so important to the foundation of the game, and a cultural reference point for Australia, not just for football.
They’re also the heartbeat of our football story, too, which hits home when I think of some of the favourite moments I have called. Now a new generation can experience it.

Of all the Australian football commentators I think David Basheer is my favourite. I've heard all sorts of criticism about his tone and his commentary is sometimes out of sync with the flow of the game but not me...

But I like his calmness and his overall ddemeanour. He doesn't let his emotions get the better of him during the call.

And his football knowledge is up there with the best in the business.

well I can deal with him no prob from me, there arn't many decent ones around Football us life - when your having to listen to a bumbling searching for strange explicatives Harper.
Seriously I can't believe he retains his gig.

Yeah, I gave up on the The Roar after I cracked a shit on them during COVID - I was going to write a Formula 1 series on there (since they were about to celebrate the 1000th Grand Prix), and this was as Apple News was becoming a big thing, which has all the articles from The Roar at the time.

Anyways, lots of nufties got their articles onto the Apple News platform through that (including their very first article), but mine was conveniently skipped over, so I never wrote past the second part of that series.

Looks like a solid release with many contributors and some big names.

Not sure if their writers attended the press conferences but there's a lot of paraphrasing from the Maty Ryan interview.

I trust it'll go in the direction of independent interviews and stories. What I don't enjoy is how nearly every site just repeats the exact same stuff using the biggest media sources to add the exact same quotes in an article. Worse yet is using social media as a source by making a story out of a few stupid tiktoks or a reddit thread.

The main thing is I hope we don't see articles from there being used to start new threads over here. A lot of the information in insights there is usually already announced here.

How would such a place make money? Via ads? They've already got some big name contributors and I'm sure they'd love to do a volunteer article or two but you also wonder about the fee some may charge or what pay their main staff will have.

Ideally they start pressing on the biggest issues that gets the FA aware that there is noise and maybe even one or two things where the mainstream media has to look over its shoulder.

We have some good sites and podcasts out there already and it's OK that it's somewhat insular. It's for us after all. Being the replacement to some of the bigger official pages just gone means that they can now be a more independent, free commentator on the game with a far reach.
