U20 WC 2025 Australia match thread

Still not taking these matches/tournaments seriously.

1. Team was clearly underdone, we looked gassed after 60 mins in pretty much every match. Double the prep time next time, most of these kids aren't in season or are playing youth football. They needed more games before the tourney even playing some mens teams would be a good idea.
2. Not playing our best players in their best positions, Yes Overy can play LB but he is clearly much better on the right defensively and offensively. Toure struggles to play up front on his own but yet we persisted with it.
3. Pearman and Okon should of been the midfield pair for the entire tourney.

One positive is we missed out on progressing to nations like France and Spain so I think there has been some progression at this level.

come on guys - no one has to be a expert let alone a football only member to be part of GG.
Posters such as Richie deserve welcome not told to stick to his game - afterall we're behind any NT in the big aussie picture.
I don't see any OTT elitist outlook Sharkman unless I read posts wrong - but for that one post originally posted that was uncalled for.

Agreed,

Although I do see an element in the game that are hostile to new fans of the game and that bloke certainly came across that way.

What would you like to challenged on, your snide remarks to others, like 'stick to cricket'?
"Stick to cricket"? Worse things have been said on this forum.
Why does it offend you so much.
You are a bit full of it too, aren't you?

You’re assuming that Richie guy is a legit poster - frankly IMO he’s giving multi vibes, prob NoMates’ or even Lupi’s handiwork for all we know…
I’ve met Richie face to face.

He is a legit cricket fan, who I’ve watched a fair bit of live cricket with!

A good bloke too. That is, apart from not liking hoppy beer! Ha ha!

I recruited Richie to the forum. He knows a fair bit about cricket, being a former coach.

Having a look at the last part of the Cuba game a lot of shots from reasonable positions were missed by Aus in the last 20 minutes or so.

I think Toure and Jovanovic were most culpable.

In the end, we needed at least 4 points to progress and we fell short. So even if those goals had gone in against Cuba and we'd won 8-1, we still wouldn't have gone through. Likewise, if we didn't concede the two very late goals against Argentina and had only lost 1-2, it also wouldn't have made any difference. Even if both scenarios occurred, we'd still only have 3 points and would not have gone through. Ultimately, I guess the result we needed was to draw with Italy in the opening game in what was a relatively even game that we could have gotten something out of, decided in the end by a penalty to Italy. All in all, it felt like so many missed opportunities by this group.
On balance we were third best team in the group.

Who knows, with a modest opponent Aus could have won the next game in the knock out phase?

We also had a few players who would have been first selected in the starting eleven, who weren’t there.

Irankunda, Leonard.

Who else is young enough, but for various reasons they were not selected?

Matthews?

On point 1, it depends whether the clubs release them.

Matthews is a year too old

The missing players who are either injured or getting game time in europe are

Younis (brondby)
Irankunda
Waddingham (injured)
Walker (dual national)
Lino (injured)
Skoko (dual national)

Powerhouses like italy are of course missing more as we covered on the pod

Even south korea were missing yang who is arguably doing better than itankunda and is born 2006
