Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

That was another poster who said that. He is entitled to his citizenship and I also wish him well in his career. My point is that he has shown by his own actions that he didn't really want to be an Australian International. Not sure how you can argue otherwise. It's not like Popovic ignored him when it came to squad selection. Rather the other way around.
Thats fair enough. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree...

Simply put, Popovic likes to take his time before playing someone. He had more experience with Teague so he had a clearer picture.

Triantis needed to understand that an be patient. Balard waited and had a great NZ window. It's frustrating we won't get to see possible combinations of Luongo, Balard, Triantis and Robertson. They're classy players.

If players like Caceres return, I'll be annoyed. It's also a waste of time to continue with Hrustic or O'Neill in friendlies as we know what they can offer.

Platers like Caceres did well when they played. I'm glad that he and a couple of others got caps and did a job, but I think going forward there are better options. I'm all in favour of resting a few players each window that Popovic already has on the plane to North America to give a few others an opportunity. I'm sure he has half the squad inked in by now.

this is pretty remarkable. Even though cm is our strongest position, he managed to get regular time at 1500 elo league as an u22 last season, thats 3 years earlier than balard and 4 years earlier than o'niell. So he is likely to end up a better player. Even if Teague manages to break through this season, that is still two years older than robbo

Teague won't break through. He is another player than got picked up by a decent overseas league because he played for big clubs in the ALM. He is a good ALM player - nothing more. In big ALM games he has gone missing too many times. Run of the mill games against weaker teams he is fine. In a big game against better opponents he goes missing.

He will be back in the ALM before his current contract expires and will become a journeyman here.

Robertson on the other hand would add immensely to our CM stocks going forward if he stays.

I wish Teague all the best and he still has development ahead. However, he's been the poster surfer boy of Australian youth teams for years and often those touted at a very young age don't come all the way through. While he had a decent Benfica education, the lack of playing time at a crucial development stage where he was basically MIA and had stupid player hoarding loans in Portugal only hindered his progress.

Someone like Balard has put in a decent few season and is now really doing well in The Netherlands. Teague has the fortune of an embellished Australian debut again a weak China. In saying that, it's early days and he may be able to contribute as a squad member. He may also take the path of someone like Baccus, ultimately favoured by the coach, plays alright, but there are stronger, arguably more responsible selections available. Baccus was often a rogue who either smashed the ball over the bar or committed unnecessary fouls. The midfield role lacked a solid passing game which prevented us from creating chances.

The A League can only be a viable option at that young stage if we have more clubs. Why don't we have a few more to ensure players with talent around 18 years old can get a decent number of minutes?

He is still young enough to improve, I wouldn't write him off yet

but yes I agree Robertson is clearly a step up from anyone born 98-2004

I vaguely remember his name doing the rounds in Sokkah Twitter.
rcb is a position I feel we have more depth, so can live if we aren't as strategic with recruits

What’s this about not being able to play for Peru until 3 years have passed? I’m pretty sure that’s not correct. He was under 22 and played in two friendlies for Australia, I’m pretty sure that doesn’t stop him from playing for Peru right now. I haven’t heard of this supposed 3 year wait rule before.

You are absolutely correct.

There is a 3-year wait rule that is applicable, in certain specific circumstances only, to players wishing to change association.

It does not apply to Alex Robertson.

That's the link to the FIFA Commentary on the change of association rules. The relevant section where a 3 year wait period is prescribed is at Article 9 Paragraph 2(c), on page 10, paragraph 77.

It's the fact that when he made the first squad against the might of CHINA & INDONESIA, he wasn't even selected on the bench for either game!!! When I didn't see his name against Indo, I said, don't worry he'll probably start against China, and then Popovic the flop didn't even pick him!!!

Why are you belittling Indonesia and China? At the time they were both one point behind us on the standings and China, after a bad start, had won their last two matches (we only had one win at that stage). We really were under the pump at that time and needed two wins. Triantis decided to go elsewhere after one disappointment. Remember he was picked for the next available squad but withdrew. It wasn't Popovic who gave up on Triantis, Triantis gave up on us.

Whatever you say Tony - but China had lost 2 and were at a GD of -8.

As I predicted Triantis not even close to a call up for the Greece WCQ squad this month.
Would have made more sense for him to stick with Australia IF indeed Popa had made it clear he was going to get a call up ...... . The big IF.
It was an odd decision by Triantis if you only filter it through the lense of likely playing opportunities. The suddeness of the change of heart feels like Triantis took offense to something that happened in that last camp. I'd love to hear the real story.
