The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Are we getting a walkup crowd of 10k? Cos i dont see many tickets being pre sold.
Yeah maybe I am being overly optometrist but it HAS to be a better turn out than the measly 4-6k crowds we have achieved as of late...

First match will make or break this comp I feel.

LOL🤓

It should go quite some way in setting the tone for the rest of it, at the very least.

Now because we can all agree that the 🇦🇺⚽️ authorities haven’t exactly the best track-record when it comes to promoting upcoming matches, this is where us fans(in addition to the clubs themselves) ought to step up and attempt some guerrilla/viral-marketing of our own, be it online or IRL. Those slogans brainstormed in the other thread need to be put to use by us💡

The clubs need to grow a backbone and do some marketing of their own.

Whats stopping us, fro example, of reaching out on Aleague forums and offering discounted tickets to Aleague fans?

I think you just got to take it as each game comes, don't expect a big X crowd number for all your asking for is a let down.
Game to game as we say - I reckon thats a better way looking at it.
Sorry mate I disagree. For 20+ years everyone I have tried to drag along to a game doesnt want to come and see Hellas unless we are in the top flight... well now we ARE in the "top flight" its time to put their money where their mouths are... If this isnt an immediate success it will fizzle out and die pretty quickly... that will be THE END of any hope of a connected pyramid or aspirational football in this country in the future.. If this comp dies on the vine, its dead forever.

mate, you know I am on this side but I don't like to talk it up OTT with expectations of granduer re numbers putting our necks out.
I sure HOPE we koff damn healthy and great crowd/s I hope they come I'm just being wary/edgy.
Matey Im not arguing against you being wary... Im just worried that if this thing doesn't work now, that's it, finito la musica, passato la festa.

Every single Vince Rugari type will be poised over their keyboards on Friday 10th October waiting, drooling, itching to write this whole thing off as soon as they possibly can... Begging for a flare on the pitch or a fan throwing punches, or a low crowd to get their chance to say...

"see I told you so, Australia is too big, travel is too expensive, Lowy got rid of the effnikz for a reason, there is no money for pro/rel" ... and on and on and one with whatever bullshit the APL tells them to spew out.

I'm beyond hoping they come now, Im praying for them to come....

I still dont know of anyone thats not already rusted on commited to attending this opening game...yet they all have tickets for the Aus cup final.
Oh, I don't know anyone that is going to the Australia Cup final... at least anyone that has admitted it to me I suppose.

@Monoethnic Social Club @LFC
Hers is my rant moment....
F$%k Rugari and anyone like him, his hypocritical biased bullshit opinion means less to me than any other 'plastic promoter'.. if i had my way he'd be paying tickets in full, no free rides for the pseudo reporter he is or left out altogether! End of day he can tell us why we have to beat Mcity AFC bumper crowd of, wait for it... 1470 odd to be successful when they cant? The so called professionals! Anything above that and we sweet with that tosser id say and all those vocal dimwhits setting the bar higher than their league... half the aleague clubs dont get that average! We expect it across the league? If we get it it should be stipulated they get closed down once and for all or pay us for the right to join!

Confused. Isn’t Rugari also an “efnik”? Italian ancestry?
as is Lou Sticca who apparently said that you couldn't have ethnic clubs in the same league as broad based clubs as it would be mixing dirty and clean water.

Joe Gorman speculated in his book that Italian migrants found it easier to stomach the reforms in the game over the last few decades because italian culture gets affirmed a lot in mainstream Australia compared to other migrant identities - italian food and the catholic church being two expamples that come to mind. Not sure how right Joe is. Maybe if lots of anglo Aussies were Greek Orthodox and making Ek Mek rather than Tiramasu, attitudes would have been different

I suppose the silver lining is having the extra jeopardy makes it more exciting

not only do we have to bite our nails watching the action on the pitch, we have to bite our nails waiting for the crowd figures

That’s definitely a general factor, though who knows how applicable it is in Flogari’s case - grifters like him don’t balk at the thought of selling their own children down the river💡

So why do people see him as a grifter, rather than just partisan?

Was gonna say - having met the bloke while in Griffith, I never got this perception of him either.
It’s the South Australian factor IMO. Rugari being from there.

SA fans ditched their ethnic clubs and created a broad based new entity BEFORE the A League was formed.

They don’t see a conspiracy to kick out the wogs. They voluntarily left the top tier.

interestingly, the only anti-closed shop voice I know from south Australia is Adam Howard who supports Adelaide city and I believe is an Anglo?
