I know you are a sceptic, and I don't blame you, but this Championship is a great evolutionary tool for Australian football in all facets of the game here.. Players, backroom staff, managers, media, groundskeepers, fans ... EVERYONE. Im an optimist sure, but if it takes off we can double the resources we have as a sport almost overnight..... thats the hope anyway.

I hope it succeeds. But, i also think that the FA will find a way to fuck it up. They pretty much fucked it by changing it from a league to a cup format.

There are a bunch of ways this can go sideways. Chances are FA will make some dumb decisions, for sure. I just truly hope it's not that tiny percentage of 'fans' that like to ruin things time and time again. We know the majority of football fans are great. They enjoy the game, maybe a bit of banter with rival fans, all in good fun. It's that tiny percentage of dickheads that bring so much unwanted negative attention time and time again. I just hope that if there is some fan issues, that both the clubs and FA handle it better than it has been in the past.

Im almost 100% certain that there will be some sort of "gottcha" moment with shit fan behaviour.... I'ts been building for 20 years and alot of pent up animosity is gonna come flying out the first few games... I hope, like you, that the clubs are prepared and can do their best to nip it in the bud early and FA is smart enough to work WITH the clubs rather than AGAINST them....

There is HUGE difference between the likes of Vasilopoulos and his Croatian counterparts back in the day, with today’s leaders.

Back then, Vasilopoulos would vacillate between condemning the fans, and stating that that Hellas Fabs were innocent!

I reckon the issues could definitely surface if police presence is overly excessive. Probably not an issue everywhere, but definitely here in Vic I could see it happening.

The groups have worked out pretty well regarding not stoking tensions. There aren't really any hateful rivalries within the group stage (although it depends who shows up for a game like South vs Broadmeadow). Finals could end up a different story.

Mate I sort of feel the opposite to this. Police presence won't make much of a difference I feel, most NPL fans are used to it recent big matches, AND most NPL security is pretty geared with what to expect from crowds... I feel that our biggest threat is from ourselves really ... or more specifically from our latent fan groups... Look at a club like Heidelberg (as an example) they had 3-4 flares at recent NPL final, thats 3 more than they have let off in the past 15 years!!!!!! All these newly re-connected fans are coming... and I fear, they are re coming for possibly the wrong reason... We havent had flares at Lakeside for a decade - I bet we do next month though.

I hope whatever happens is confined to a bit of smoke, abit of banter, some (possibly off colour) chants but NO violence..... If anything a bit of "effnik fervour" might look good on the SBS socials :)
 
If South didnt have any flares against Preston, its unlikely we will see any in the upcoming games.

Ive already bought some........ hahahahahahahahy - sorry should add "allegedly" just in case.

But seriously Id be suprised if none are ripped, considering the past few months of no other club be sanctioned for them.

I dont think our supporters care for them. Even in the 5 grand finals we've played in the last decade none were ripped.

Sure mate, I dont disagree, however there are going to be alot of Johhny-come-latelies attending (at least the first match) many of which didn't even KNOW we played NPL GF for the past decade.... There will be a hell of a lot more new faces down at Albert Park next month...

I hope you are right in terms of new faces. Personally i think we will struggle to fill the main stand, in our entire history we've only pulled a big Friday night crowd like once.

No I think the opening match will be massive.... If nothing else... SBS will hype the shit out of it, as will the Greek Australian media...

Less than 10k and we should just stfu and be content with NPL for the rest of our lives. Its time to shit or get off the toilet....

I wouldn't go that far. Given the latent yearning for a higher level and the likely hyping of the opening match I would expect 10k to be easily passed. I am certainly hoping the whole thing is a roaring success and a few more clubs can be found to make it a home and away in the near future.
 
i can defintley see this in my opinion being like the US system , which is fine by me for the short term as the MLS is the a league franchise based and the USL leagues system which is professional and attracts crowds between 5-7000 and the wages are between 2000-5000 a month that's US dollars ,

which would work in the short to medium to me

Are we getting a walkup crowd of 10k? Cos i dont see many tickets being pre sold.
 
Sydney United and Preston are the main concerns, guaranteed channel 7 the flogs will be all over it soon as one flare is lit.

Whats the hype like in the other states (not including Victoria). In Perth you wouldn't even know this comp exists.
