Soccer Ashes thread

This is from Aus Watch Football. It's probably pretty close. Would also be really disappointing imo.

Izzo deserves to start. I want one of Irankunda or Segecic to start. We've gotta get a big long look at Balard to assess.

TBH I have not looked at him recently but from his time at CCM and Adelaide I was always concerned with his ability against free kicks. He had a couple of foibles. He would set a wall incorrectly so the set piece taker had a direct route or he would set the wall correctly then not trust them and dive behind it while the ball sailed in on his side.

As I said - this was from a while ago so hopefully that part of his game has improved. As a pure shot-stopper he certainly has ability but my concern with all three of these keepers and the others we have around at the moment is that they are a level down on what we used to produce.

Izzo is the most in form goalkeeper. He deserves his chance.

Agree with Izzo getting a starting debut but conceding 2.33 goals per game in club football is a bit concerning. Segecic deserves to get a start either up front or in attacking midfield along with Milanovic also especially given how well they've been running this season.
 
But Izzo played for Victory so he's automatically better. He deserves a game. Rusty of late for club though.

If the three named for this window are the best we have after Ryan then I hate to think what happens if Ryan is injured for the World Cup or when he retires. We need to find better somewhere because these choices are actually really poor.

Look back to earlier in the A-League and we had Ryan, Langerak, Vukovic, Theo, Bolton, & Galekovic all playing at the same time. All six are better than the ones in the NT squad. That drop in standard is frightening.
 
Popovic said he can't judge a player off two sessions. Well, he did that with Balard and Triantis. 'He's not what we're looking for.'

It's definitely a drop yet Gauci survived Saitama so there's that in his back pocket. He's certainly got areas to improve on.

Don't get why we keep including Glover when we should offer some exposure to other local keepers but Beach is on Olyroos duty. Hopefully Chapman can shape up. Hall is another who needs senior football now.

It's a problem.

I still hope Gauci comes on. I like Thomas in the AL. What are your thoughts on Peraic-Cullen.

All of our EFL GKs seem to have lost their spots which sucks.

Beach hasn't impressed me much but I'm probably remembering the mistakes. He had a fantastic game against Victkry this season. Until he didn't.

Beats his xgot along with peraic cullen

Both had mistakes but the distribution and shot stopping is good

Looking forward to this. Driving down this morning. Decided to go when the squad was announced. Hoping to see some minutes for Nestory and Sega. Bought tickets last Friday night, pax just under 15k

I’m personally contributing 12 people to the crowd number today. This one’s going to be a special one for my family. My 2.5 year old son is excited out of his mind for the game and got his first Socceroos jersey this week. He’s at an age now where he finally ‘gets’ it. I’ll also be taking my 7 month old who was born at 25 weeks and spent 4.5 months in hospital. I’m beyond grateful to be in a position where I can take him to the game with my family, considering how chaotic life has been. Regardless of the result, I can’t wait to have this experience with my boys 🙂

I don't really care about friendlies, but in this case JUST for your family I hope the Roos turn it up and smash them 7 nil.... :)

I hope this is not our 11:
- Metcalf is NOT a left winger
- it would be insanity to select Boyle over Irankunka
- likewise O'Neil over Balard - all O'Neil ever does is shuffle the ball about. We need more than he offers.

I guess it is one game out of 2, so the second game 11 might look very different.
