Soccer Ashes thread

The way you said "its good to have him back in the NZ line-up" sounded like you were speaking as a Kiwi fan. Also your AL team is Wellington.
He’s a contrarian. I have an uncle that’s also a Wellington fan.

Well I'm very pleased with the squad. I think Elder is unlucky but it shows what Popovic is thinking. Silvera will get some time at LWB.

Mental that Segecic is now in. Don't coaches talk? I anticipate one or two withdrawals due to knocks.
I'd start him as RWB with Bos as LWB.

There's actually a lot of history behind it. It's not a marketing gimic.

No disrespect to the old blokes but it still doesn’t mean much to people so the history has been turned a bit into a gimmick to sell this game.

And sadly a lot of this stuff was kind of used as a marketing things by armed forces. But yeah no disrespect to the original men/players/soldiers

Sure beats the Greek friendly series being promoted by a yoghurt company.

Playing two games against the same opponent is the thing I don't like. Reduces the value of the second game in terms of experiencing different teams and types of play.

Although the Socceroo's have done well away from home in WC Qlfying there going to be up against it in NZ. With so many young and new players in the Socceroo's squad lets see how they handle them self away from home.

Looks like times up for Behich & Duke. Both have given great service but it’s time . Is Veluepillay injured?

Wow great squad, only Hrustic and Glover are worthy points of contention (IMO) but Popa really going to have a look this window.

Elder is stiff given its a euroroos squad, hope Silvera is backup LWB and not one of the centre backs.

It’s actually a great squad, I like some of the new names.

Maybe a bit stiff on Jed Drew but you only pick from so many, this squad re-affirms me we got some great talent coming through ready to be utilised in the national team.

How do they fit in a 5 at the back system will be interesting, I wish we played a 4/3/3 or a 4/2/3/1 instead for better balance but that’s on Popa to get it right.

Also with the Segecic selection, how does a player get selected in two different squads one from the u23s and now the senior team.

Do the coaches communicate with each other? In my opinion this should not happen and doesn’t give the player clarity which team he’s headed to.
