Sunshine Coast for A-League?

AND? Isnt that human nature anyway mate? Whats your point?

You realise in 2004 the state league system was pretty shithouse and the NSL itself was failing?

I dont get your stance, are you saying that my CLUB should just shut the fuck up and NOT have any ambition around developing a pro/rel system that we may or may not directly benefit from? Why because there was no pre/rel 20 years ago???
Yes it is my point, no one gave a fuck about pro/rel when you were sailing along nicely, but now you are out of the loop , you want to change it. Hypocritical. You are 25 years too late to be shouting about pyramids, the horse MAY have bolted.

One point though, if enthusiasm grows then you will be locking them out of your 10000 seater mini stadium.
Well in a ground built specifically for football I guess that would be a nice problem to have...

Renting a 52K mega stadium where you're basically a third class customer with a regular fanbase of 5 or 6K not so much.

They are only there as even less went to see them at Redcliffe. The same happened when they had to play games on the Gold Coast. A winning well run team will bring them back again.

What should ideally happen is they have sails on the top tiers to shut them off as they do at BC place , Vancouver.

This was also in the original build of Allianz stadium, but was omitted on cost, apparently.

My point is, that there was never any noise about full pyramids until about 2005 or so, you know the rest.

No one gave a fuck when you were in the penthouse, but as soon as you went to the shitehouse, thoughts changed.
I dont get this argument. Ive also heard people say that poor people would be against taxing the rich to fund a welfare state the moment the poor get rich.

Even if its true, it doesnt matter since what wr are evaluating is the case for a welfare state, not the moral character of its advocates.

Similarly, I'm a lot more interested in the case for p and r than the character of its advocates

Stop speaking sense to this forums version of Chips Rafferty, and other similar profiles over the years on various forums

The Brisbane Lions women AFL side are the best supportered women's sports team un Brisbane.

But they dont play at the 38K Gabba and shut the top tiers.

They play at the smaller 8K capacity Michael Voss Oval. A different sport I know but from what I've heard the games are fairly well supported with a good atmosphere. Their average for last season was 3,500 per game.

A little bit less than Brisbane Roar get

Would it help your feelings if it was another, less effnik, club shouting for pro/rel?

Would someone like South Hobart fit your description of a morally upstanding soccer citizen? Or ANY of the other 30+ AAFC clubs that rallied around OUR cry to open the game up to all?

Is your main beef that it is South Melbourne, the big bad effnikz boogyman that is doing the "shouting"....

Whether you are morally courageous enough to acknowledge it or not, we are still one of the few clubs big, proud and loud enough to make any noise... If the horse has bolted, the barn is going to be burning down sooner rather than later.

I hope you are right, but the shouting should have been done many years before.

Whatever club it is to me, I give no fucks as I have no attachment to any of them.

You lost me at “ women’s sport “. Like comparing shite to clay.

When? In a failing NSL that was run sooo poorly that most of the clubs were struggling to a) be relevant in Australia playing a sport most saw as foreign, or b) the clubs outside the NSL where such a laughing stock there wouldn't have been ANY clubs in the lower tiers to be able to step up anyway.... franchises tried and failed, "regional mainstream " tried and failed only Glory was a real lasting success... and maybe Adelaide United would have been a success if they gave it enouhg time and added a Victory, a Sydney City and maybe a Brisbane Roar to the NSL before Lowy came along and sold football to his investor mates... maybe pro/rel would have happened organically like in Japan if handled with a bit more class rather than with the axe and fire....

Wan't to acknowledge it or not, this isn't just some sort of Hellas ego trip.... there are many ambitious clubs in this country, we are just the tip of the spear... if it doesn't happen tomorrow for us, it will happen in 10-20 years for another club... the APL franchise model is NOT the way...

Yeah I get what you mean, I don't watch any of the women's football codes.

Anyway the reality is that the Brisbane Roar are the city's A League franchise and it's highly unlikely to be anyone else taking their place. And the reality is the Bakries are going to continue as their owners because nobody else would want to take it on. And the reality is they will continue to play games at Suncorp Stadium because there is nowhere else that would suit and no state government is going to spend $50m on a stadium specifically for 'soccer' so this whole discussion is probably futile....

Was it not the governments choice to shut the down the NSL, I seem to recall they had a lot to do it with through some report of sorts.

Imagine how much better off we’d now be if this had been the FFA/APL’s guiding principle for the past 2 decades😔

W/respect to the point you’re making, I’m inclined to prefer a 2nd Brisbane team(the Strikers would be my choice) before a side from anywhere else in QLD though.
Interested why you, and quite a few others on here, often suggests Strikers should be the second Brisbane team if there was going to be one. Genuine question, what is it about Strikers that appeals to you?

Roar is the victim of crap football more than any other factor as far as I am concerned.

I have been bothered by the Bakries financial games as much as everyone else but I see good things since Kaz and Zac came in.

I have heard from other Roar fans over years that they just can't stand the dross we put on the park. What I consider watchable and improving football most consider boring, frustrating, and not worth their money or time.

This season it looks like we are going to be playing proper football again, and I do not think it will take much for people to come to games again if they see the football is worth their time. While the off field dramas and active support dramas have turned some off the club, I do not believe that speaks for most. I believe most are still Roar supporters and are just waiting for something they feel they can actually support.

Moving to Ipswich would be as bad as moving to Redcliffe. It is just not the 'home' of the Roar and moving in any direction away from the city would exclude blocks of supporters from attending. Upgraded Perry Park would be fantastic while we rebuild our attendance - so easy to get to and still central.

Suncorp is what we are stuck with for now - and where the cost used to require 17k crowds to break even I am sure they have other arrangements in place now to make it cheaper. If that involves shutting off huge chunks of Suncorp then so be it as a starting point. I agree that Suncorp only became a size issue after the football became harder to follow and the circus turned people off. When we play good football for a few games people will turn up. When we do it for longer more will come. And if we play it for a season or more then Suncorp will not echo so badly. I expect 10k crowds to be the norm relatively quickly if we play the football I am anticipating.

On a derby side for us - I understand the licence agreement includes an exclusion of any other Brisbane based side. Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast would be fantastic to add to the competition. A bonus for the media wing is it would also give us a north qld derby, south qld derby and the qld coastal derby :(.

The club is not a basket case in my eyes, is not damaged beyond the return of many supporters, and we are going to show it on the pitch this season.

Ill watch dross through thick and thin if i felt we were a team promoting and developing qld talent

Been a little better the last 12 months, so i was slightly happier despite the dross on the field
