One of the biggest investors in Skydance is, as the article alludes too - RedBird Capital.

Owners of AC Milan,Toulouse and were once seriously looking at buying into Liverpool. Gerry Cardinale, founder and managing partner is very much a football fan too, apparently.

Maybe he might have some influence on Paramount Plus's global football investments.....

Hopefully, as has been discussed, Nine come bidding with Stan, and Fox with DANZ as new owners come looking, along with Paramount....

Will be a watch and see with the WC in the US, as Trump is throwing his full support behind it what affect if any it has on the collision codes fans becoming more accepting of Football.

BTW, still no word on has Paramount extended nay sorry excised their 3 year extension and if so for what fee, and still no word on Silver Lake are they an investor now or a creditor

Actually I think the Fox/DAZN option would be the likely one. And DAZN would probably broadcast it free internationally like they are doing with the Belgian League this year on their app.....
 
Paramount is dropping its DEI so there goes the woke A-League.
 
I know isn't Australian football tv deal but i just bought stan sport for the epl on the weekend. $42 per month 😱😱 ridiculous. It was free for me with optus sport last season. This has to be the biggest price gauge out of any of the streaming services.

I hate that tactic. Making people get the normal subscription and then making the sport package an addon which cannot be purchased on it's own.
 
A good way to visualise revenues. What would A-League look like?

We should have local deals as well, where all interstate away matches are broadcast FTA. Maybe no one else wants it?

I'd say our broadcast deal would easily be our largest percentage. And it's stunning how much the yanks make from parking! No wonder they're so anti public transport.

Bearing in mind that these charts also take concessions like stadium food into account in addition to parking but I think the vast majority of revenue from the A-Leagues would be from either ticket sales or national broadcast deals.

hey v, I wasn't a optus mobile subscriber but a OS customer since the WC broadcasting they had so naturally had to join and in turn kept it up due to EPL etc.......
I'm surprised its costing you $42 a/m right now.
I just did my re subscription from the Optus email recieved little time ago re the change going to Stan Sport.
Just completed incl SS package its costing me $25 a/m !
Voucher redeemed it states 5mths, I recall from Jan 1 '26 then I'm sure the cost will go up.
I'd look into this save yourself some bucks for the remianing on '25.

Interesting to see their revenue breakdowns....and you can understand why/how it works with 390M pop and huge broadcasters.
What broadcaster here is going to free up some FTA time at NO CHARGE ?
They can't offord doing so HG the way I see it.

I remember Gallop saying the FTA deal done with SBS was to get more people signed up to Foxtel.

I didn't receive this email. I have been an optus customer since i was 16 (22 years ago 😱 😱 😱 ) Ill have to follow up optus. Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it

I think APL will go to broadcasters with a plan of something like the promise of expansion in the second and/or third year of the deal, into Canberra, Gold Coast, Tasmania, and maybe throw in Geelong now WU are gone, or Christchurch.

I know it goes against what some want, either merit based or plucking the richest clubs of the NPL. But now the league is on its knees, they're kinda begging for a decent broadcast deal. And the broadcasters will want more markets covered. Having those areas covered at the top level is probably a good thing for the sport anyway. Expansion without compromising existing markets. Completely different from the WU scenario. And no "trust me bro" statements about building stadiums.

That's with my finance and growth hat on. Until we have a league format NST to connect with, then the APL need to get cracking with expansion for broadcast dollars. Auckland's been a massive win, they need to keep it up now with the next clubs.

Losing more clubs and shrinking the league would be an absolute disaster and not the way forward. Some say stabilise the league at 12 clubs for years to come, and I get it. But if the broadcast dollar are there and it's worth it, expansion into the areas listed above would be beneficial.

Just my take, as it stands.

*oh and no asking for astronomical licence fees. Just enough to cover costs. Boosting the broadcast deal is the priority. If the APL clubs are healthy then there won't be as much resistance from everyone to pro/rel.

Having read that - even though this plan I'm about to outline is a long time - I wouldn't be 'unhappy' if it happened:
  • Stabilise the A-League with the current 12 until the end of the current licensing agreements (2034 I think I read?)
  • Start the NST, and expand to 14 over time, in the way above that you mention. Have it link up to the NPL's in whatever format from the get-go/ASAP
  • Once 2034 hits, the A-League and NST have pro/rel, fully linking the pyramid - even if it's initially just a playoff between last and first.
 
Gotta say this again.

The bigger issue is crowds.

Say 150 games per year, every 1,000 increase in crowd size @ 30.00 per ticket is another 4.5 million.

The steady pick up across crowd n ratings metrics over the last four years is a good selling point .

I expect we will get a slightly better media deal next time
