Aussies abroad šŸŒšŸ¦˜

Lupi has a deep insecurity that he hasn't quite confronted yet. We are all here to support you Lupinho.
this you?

We desperately need some superstars, some guys playing in the top leagues. Aussies only watch the pinnacle of each sport. If we are regularly seeing guys go over to top5 leagues it will lift the interest.
well this is why critical inquiry is required instead of happy clapping

Great move! It was extremely unlikely he was going to get into Bayern’s first team squad, and with all due respect to Swiss Football, the Championship is a higher-standard, higher-profile league.
I hope I'm wrong, but my gut feel is that Irankunda doesn't have a strong enough mentality to succeed in European football, especially in a relatively higher level league like the Championship..

I am going to screenshot and keep this, in the hope I get egg on my face in the future.

He'd wanna lay off the Sam Kerr tribute backflips though, he'll get thumped over there...

I agree. His head space is his biggest impediment.

I mean I understand there is some merit in this take on the kid BUT he is still only 19 and if you or I had his talent and achieved what he has at his age....you'd hope most people would be incredibly proud of him and what he has done for creating some hype about the future of Australian football.

A reframing would be that he's done bloody amazing all things considered and he still has PLENTY of time to be the player we all hope and dream he will be.

Of course he could be another Kuol or Arzani and not have made much impact in 5 years from now....But my gut feel is this kid has something - he will just obviously need to be in the right environment due to who he is as a person. Some of the greatest footballers ever were hot heads.

If he plays 25+ games this season I believe that would be our first u20 to achieve that in a 2nd tier league since brett holman

With some luck Bennie will pull that feet off too

He's still very young and passionate. Needs to calm down and develop an ice cold ruthless streak.

Has all the skills, just needs to work on the temperament.

You've not been watching in the AL then. Far more than a tap in king. Makes goals for others and scores from anywhere.
yeah he probably was in demand for his XA which is pretty decent and usually translates well to a higher level

Been told by good sources that he got turned down by multiple clubs after initial interest due to his social media posts though, so he did well in the end

Bit of excitement on Watford forums about Irankunda. I'd love the move if true.

That’s a fun read hahaha there’s genuine excitement about the move.
I think his style will suit the fast paced and physical nature of the championship. Watford seem keen for a promotion push, which hopeful means they are looking to take teams on and be on the front foot. That’s something that didn’t play to Nestor’s strengths at Grasshopper because they were lowly and trying to survive - constantly on the back foot. From memory, he doesn’t seem to thrive in a low block and trying to hit teams on the counter because there’s too much pressure on him being the outlet and he can get closed down or bullied. He plays well in transition and when there are multiple threats moving forward, in order to take some of the attention away from him and also catch the defenders facing the wrong way.
The other key factor, which others mentioned, is his temperament. He’s a good kid but he’s one of those people who sees red when they’re on the field - white line fever. He will benefit from no language barrier and from having mature players around him who will be direct with him. There are a lot of groups of players/former players in the UK who help with mentoring/pastoral care etc, which I’m hopeful he’ll tap into. In the right environment, he has the physical attributes to do well.
