Being an island in the middle of nowhere hardly helps our cause either.

My whole point is the AFL only 'stand their own two feet' because of handouts they received. And largely still do.

We are the largest sport in the largest sport in the country, time to start putting some political threats in the FA newsletters lol

100% but the fact remains that we will NEVER be able to swing the same amount of political and social clout as the "indigenous codes" while we are still busy trying to fuck each other over at every opportunity... Soccer doesn't do unity in this country, never has and in all probability, never will.

Oh FFS... OK, lets call them the "mainstream sports" then.. is that better?

The point still stands... Soccer, at the top level, is still considered an un-Australian game and despite our immense participation base, none of it pulls in the same direction. AFL doesnt have this problem, and hasnt for at least 50 years... When they want something (like a stadium in Hobart) all levels of the game unite behind trying to ake it happen.. You dont see anyone coming out from the Fremantle Dockers saying NO to a Tassie expansion... I assume the NRL is the same?

When they put the hat out to federal or state gov, they are ALL on the same page... we are NOT.

The Socceroos filled the largest stadium in Perth and the Western Bulldogs got 4,000 people to go to Ballarat and watch them play. So things are not as dire as they seem. Indeed, when the A-League got started MVC had more paid up members than the Western Bulldogs.
The hard task is to market the clubs and get more memberships.

Cant really compare the national team to a suburban Melbourne club playing in a country town though mate....

last game was previous quali against Palestine in '24, no Japan thats for sure and the previous Roo game was way back in 2016 !
Talk abouy starved for "events" let alone our Roo NT, you'd expect damn sell out.
 
You want to go head to head we take on the weaker links links like rugby first, this is the easier beat, but to do that you begin by overhauling everything in football from the ground up. No more prioritising the so called "main stream", FA do a carpet survey of all football stakeholders as a whole and equally, engage actual professionals of how to set up a new structure encompassing all things football, FA to control all again (bring in experts from European FA's to do it) no more ex rugby muppets politicians etc at helm of our sport, no closed leagues, no exlcuded clubs, full focus on growing grass roots as opposed to a pro league and push push push the international exposure (which cricket does correctly), you get the ground up working well and the rest falls in line.. simple. Thats the pipe dream and wishful thinking..

The reality:
We cant even agree,support,accept a 2nd tier (new dawners continue to still argue to exclude effniks for the sake of those that dont have an interest in our game), and thats a fully internal issue, so no need blame the other codes for those shortcomings!

General observation remains that those crying most foul about the afl strength etc are the ones that are pro exclusion in our game in the first place.. no different to that which they hypocritically berate when it comes to themselves.... no doubt that even of they got the sway/power it wouldnt be that they would use it for the benefit of the game as a whole, but their own league alone..

With all this in mind, and until our own house is in order, why would i care who has the power as a supporter/proponent of the lower leagues, especially when it doesnt benefit me in the least, and given i have no stakeholder status overall?

What makes you want to take on either of the two rugby codes ?

We have five A league teams in NSW, and four of them coexist in the same stadiums. Rugby league and union, do not see football as the enemy in the same way the insecure AFL does.

If you want to go after someone, start at the top and the rest will fall. ( if indeed, Aussie rules is at the top )

In my experience, close to most of the exclusionary new-dawners are the ‘dual-code’ fans who claim to love 🏉 and ⚽️ equally..but in reality their 1st loyalty is to eggball, and gaslight ⚽️ loyalists into thinking that code-wars remain a thing only because they “bring it up all the time”

You are correct regarding football as a whole south of the border, afl and its media cronies is by far the number 1 enemy, north of it though the nrl and its set are just as abhorrent - shared stadiums or not!
Ask sydney olympic and its treatment etc about co existing with nrl clubs and you have your answer as to why to take them on also. Remember its not just the aleague thats football in this country, and that was my casing point, and we shouldnt view it as standalone bc we will keep failing.

Happy to start the push back anywhere mind you but only after the right foundations are set.. time to finally get our house in order!
 
The top level will always have the issue of being compared to overseas leagues. The best aussie rules and rugby league players play in the afl and nrl, unfortunately we dont have that, mainstream Australia doesnt do 2nd rate comps. Basketball threatened briefly in the early 90s somehow but thats as close as another sport has gotten.

We will always be the 5th most popular code behind AFL, NRL, Cricket and Union and sometimes WAFL and Netball.

The issue is it's identical footage to the A League grand final if not worse for the hooning and fireworks being shot. I believe MV Fans just had stationary flares.

The tone and wording in reporting is entirely different too.
