Serious question, do South Melbourne Lakers declare the right attendance, or is their the dodgy turnstile used to help with players " extras/ bonuses " .

Who? When was the last time anybody even saw a turnstile, please don't tell me they still use them at Ipox, the home of Sevco Scotland LTD? How archaic.

The last time I remember a 30 plus crowd for a regular league game was at the old SFS against MVFC. I believe that was also 3-3.

The roar when the equaliser went in was loud. Memorable game that's for sure.

There was over 34000 at the first derby back at Moore park. Also had over 30000 at the SCG as well.

I was at the SCG match, terrible game to watch football, it felt like I was in another suburb to the where the game was played, we were that far away from the game.

Anyways, the derby was a timely reminder of what the comp can deliver at its best.

I concur.

I mean from my non Aussie perspective, it is clear that cricket and rugby are above soccer in the country as far as popularity goes, bit like soccer is still behind American football and basketball, over here in the USA.

However, I think attendance in general seems to be on the rise and if more effort is put into the grassroots level throughout the country, will only get stronger.

Victory are so far down that its hard to believe. Gone are the days when MV attendances used to pull up the whole league average.

A few factors for Friday's game. Valentines day would effect many people. Laneway Festival on the same day would effect many young people. Then on top of that, the weather was absolutely bucketing down. Getting 9374 was actually pretty impressive.

I mean from my non Aussie perspective, it is clear that cricket and rugby are above soccer in the country as far as popularity goes, bit like soccer is still behind American football and basketball, over here in the USA.

However, I think attendance in general seems to be on the rise and if more effort is put into the grassroots level throughout the country, will only get stronger.

There is no connection between grassroots and franchise league attendance here mate... Two different sides of the same coin... No matter how many times you flip it it will always land one one side or another.

Victory and City have a lot of PR work to do to bring back the old fans and engage with the new. Still counting the cost of that pitch invasion. The general public see those clubs, mainly Victory, as toxic.

In Australia, football (soccer) is by far the most participated sport in the country. It's actually not even close. Head and shoulders above the others. No shortage of football fans in Australia. No shortage of football clubs in Australia. No shortage of players in Australia. However, per player, it's the lowest funded sport in the country. A-League basically has various issues that unfortunately the people steering the ship (APL now and FA in the past) straight up refuse to address.
