Vive La France: French Football discussion thread

It's been one hell of a brutal transfer window for Ligue Un.....

And the numbers tell the story pretty clearly. French clubs sold way more than they bought. Collective sales came in somewhere between €1bn and €1.2bn depending on the source, while spending sat around €500-600m. Big net positive for the balance sheets, but a hell of a talent drain for the league itself.

Premier League buyers picking up most of the cream with one or two heading off to Italy.

Olympic Marseille’s window was especially grim with no permanent signings and a load of departures (Greenwood, Medina, Aubameyang, Rulli the main ones).

That’s almost unheard of for a club of their size.

I guess the weak TV rights is forcing clubs to sell their best assets just to stay afloat. The league is surviving financially off the Premier League’s never ending line of credit...

I watched the game between PSG and Monaco this afternoon and it’s now 3 out of 3 so far for Monaco and while PSG were quite dominant in the first half Monaco were quite brilliant in the second...
Hopefully this is the year that a club other than PSG shakes things up!

Obviously Ligue 1 overall needs to improve its quality but the first step to that is consistently having new trophy winners so they can get the money to improve. Lens winning the Trophée des Champions is a good start.
