I was about to ask if they need to have things done before the championship - but Vic doesn't have this problem, does it? That means would be a moot point

Turned out not too bad last year because this game last year was Marconi v Sydney united. Doubt it’ll be that well received this time. Can only assume they do it to avoid potential fixture clashes with cup etc.

Definitely means finishing top 2 is a b if advantage

I always found it weird how seasons ended by mid September.

Some of the Championship teams will be complaining about lack of match fitness too with a month of no real matches.

You'd think they'd align them a bit better now, hey?

Canberra is a bit in an A-League space, as they start very late here (given the much lower number of teams here) but at least seem to be finishing in line.

But TAS and another NPL is finishing pretty early by comparison, if I remember correctly?

because its about field availability, they book out these massive final venues in advance, either oki jubilee in Kogarah or Parramatta Stadium, and it costs a bomb and it cant be moved.

I seriously think an NPL final doesn't need to be at any of those stadiums.

Once Leichhardt refurb is done it’ll be a pretty ideal venue imo. Again, I predict kogarah might start to fall out of favour as a football venue

Yep. I don't know why they don't extend the seasons a little bit, they did it during the Covid year so it can't just be about ground availability.

Canberra starts late and is also too short. Very common complaint among juniors and seniors as well where they pay a lot of money to sometimes not even play 20 matches.
 
You wonder how many times football matches in this country haven’t lived up to their full potential over the years due to nonsensical scheduling/venue selection

Do other sports in this country have the same problem? Or is it unique to soccer

Yeah there was something like this in the Review doc last year I found funny and pointed it out somewhere. I can't remember what it was, but will have to track it down.

Here we go - have included the line and my own opinion of it - from the Fan View article later last year:
  • Reduction of NPLB to 10 teams (overall a reduction due to this year's combined competition), with clubs now being cut from the competition. However, the review states that a longer 27-28 round season for NPL Boys and Girls will take place, citing that "The longer season was allocated to the Boys and Girls competition as it will have the greater impact on the player development pathway and it is also where ground allocations are more flexible."
    • Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the current larger competition, where a home and away season would still provide that longer season, and allow more clubs and more players to have that development pathway?

So many of the administrators in the Australian game just do not have their finger on the pulse at all. They almost always have to be belatedly dragged kicking and screaming in the right direction by the fans/volunteers etc.

Admin at the clubs and federations btw

The only thing football administrators in Australia excel at is incompetency.
