In a perfect world, based on current form/necessity, who would we be saying needs to be called up in this next window (or by the end of the year)?
For me it’s:
Younis, Robertson, Walker (though probably too soon to sort out paper work for the Brazil games)

With Nicoll-Jazuli and Skoko as bolters for the squad. I think both MN-J and Skoko could fit right in based on form/skill but be down the pecking order based on age/seniority.

While he’s mainly in Chelsea U-21, MN-J has played a lot senior games recently and him playing in the EFL trophy against men is also a good sign. Comparatively, Robertson hadn’t really featured much at all for Man City first team (if at all) prior to getting called up for the Ecuador games.

The opportunities over the next six months are limited to the two Brazil friendlies and then the Asian Cup in January.

I would think Robertson and Younis can play a significant role in the next 2-3 WC cycles, I would prioritise them immediately. From the WC squad, I thought our weakest areas from a depth perspective were right sided defenders and forwards. To that end, I would bring in Bennie or possibly Walker, mindful that we have a few more senior options such as Miller, Strain and Karacic that may come back into discussions over the next six months. In the front line, I would like to see either John Iredale or Zac Sapsford, based on form at the time.

Plenty of younger guys that we need to bring into the mix, and the Brazil games may present that opportunity, but that won't lock them in. Not a fan of flying players to Australia to sit on the bench, surprisingly that seems to have pissed a few guys off!! The Asian Cup is a better opportunity to integrate some more youth but things like squad size, availability and form means we need to wait a few months before making those decisions. The preparation should hopefully be underway now, with conversations with the likes of Nicoll-Jazuli, Okon-Engstler, Overy and Skoko.
