QLD Lions can go f themselves. They are the parent of the A League Roar.

I am interested in how many of their NPL fans are Roar fans?

I think we share history with Lions rather than them being our parent.

I doubt that there would be much pride in the Roar doing well in the Cup from Lions FC. Can't see any of them thinking "that's our little Roar".

More like we are teams from different worlds and nothing about the two clashes other than a potential lineup in the Australia Cup sometime.

There could be many supporters of both clubs - or there could be none. The two clubs are not tied together in any way as far as I look at it - other than one being a stepping stone to the other in a perfect world.

Lions even though they have always been a top team in QLD have never had any kind of decent support ever - as you say Olympic probably the best support plus Power & Brisbane City after that its a struggle to get more than 200 people to a game - its pitiful really I noticed the vast difference when my lad came down to Melbourne and yes the football culture is great down in Victoria and much more passionate too

Yea was even the case when qld lions or Brisbane city were in the nsl back in the earlier days unfortunately. One of the first cities to make the transition to the broad based newer entity style club. Brisbane united, Brisbane strikers etc

I seem to recall when the first a league pre season cup or that Oceania club championship they play was on Francis awaratefe was on sbs still referring to them as qld lions. “Queensland lions fans get down and support your team”. You know one of those random memories that burnt into your brain for no apparent reason.

Lions won the license and were required to change name due to Brisbane lions and the AFL. Thus the name roar.

The roar trained at lions for the first two seasons but any connection between the two clubs was gone by the end of the second season.

As a Roar supporter, i hope they do well in the semi in the same way I hope Victory and Adelaide do well in Asian this season etc.

I hate them just as much as I hate Olympic/City/Power etc. due to my
Duels with those clubs when playing but I don’t hate them as much as I hate Moreton Jets or Albany Creek City or Moreton Excelsior or whatever they wanna call themselves this week.

Yes but given all the circumstances they were under recently with a run of games trying to stave off relegation they put everything into that run but ultimately failed plus the cup game v Heidelberg going to pens and the way they play the game it probably knocked the stuffing out of them completely - it was really too much of an ask for them to raise their game again on a big wide pitch against a quality Lions team and it showed

Yeah sorry, didnt meant to sound so dismissive of their efforts, but last night showed a team struggling to stay up in VPL 1.

I like Lions, but I don't like Peninsula Power; and I just don't have any feeling towards Moreton.

The style of football is what attracts me, and Lions have never been a nasty opponent of a team I have been in favour of. Power has been an enemy at some point and local rivalries are hard to put aside.

Normally I would prefer aleague teams to do better than NPL teams - but it is not the overruling emotion. I have pride and expectation in my league - but I would like to see Lions, South Melbourne, and some of those scummy NSW teams like APIA and Marconi winning over SFC, Victory, Wanderers and Macarthur if it came to them in the finals.

We all have our favourites and our foes.

Im with you here, Lions play a very attractive style of football.

I was being half serious if I am being honest.

NPL is the perfect showcase for emerging talent and, politics aside, the aleague is the next step up in their careers.

I would be surprised if the Lions coach has not come to many clubs' attentions with the way they are playing. They are, above all else, a well coached side and NPL to aleague is not an unknown career path for a coach.

I would also be surprised if the Lions normal striker is not on many radars if only to monitor his consistency.

Clinical finishers are just not a common commodity and I don't know how many attempts he tried to get his excellent return in goals but anyone standing out above their colleagues in the NPL stands to be noted.

We are just lucky that the Lions players obviously prefer orange strips so we have that advantage should they merit recruitment.

I have to say, Akbari was playing a much more controlled and effective role last night than I can remember him ever playing for us. His speed of decision making, breadth of vison, and accuracy in creating were impressive. Not saying he should be back in the aleague but he has improved considerably from when he was here.

Why not ask Oudenyk who was at the forefront of the winning bid over the Strikers. The only time a supposedly wig club beat out the broad based club in a league licensing EVER!
