Volpato still out there. He's got to continue building his speed off the mark. He looks stocky with the way he wears his kit. Low centre of gravity.
 
This small black guy has been a waste of minutes being out there. The other long haired black guy is just a traffic cone as well reminds me a long haired NBA player. Hair looks great , thats about it.

Volpato should ask his team mate Matic if he remembers when O'Neill shouldered him off the ball. This forum remembers!

I like how he makes just as much effort off the ball as on it. He has some really great turns of speed. Pitty the guys around him appear to be utterly useless.

He's still on. 7 at right wing. My clock is 75min.

It's admittedly a tough game and they'll have easier ones. I find opening weeks are a bit romantic and the play seems decent before teams get back into old habits and dull, slow football.

He's lingered central well so this is good vision and awareness and hopefully Australia can exploit those things. We've been static too long in Asia. We need to move round and stretch and opponent. Shooting more leads to deflections and spills by Asian opponents.
 
Depends on the game but I think Volpato can be handy for the final 35min of a match from the bench. I remember beating Iraq in Perth and it was rightly identified the goals would come after the hour when Iraq tire and switch off. We need to analyse this in Asia.
 
Volpato with a second burst of energy getting much more involved now as the game enters the closing stages. Also good for him to lift this stamina.

When Herrington fills out around 21 he is going to be an absolute weapon. I think hes shaping as our best prospect since Kewell albeit a later developer. Kewell was a bit like Rooney or R9 in the sense that they were all full grown men by the time they were 17.

Whats great about these clubs (the portuguese big 3) is that because they are so much better than the rest of the league, they can afford to rotate a lot. Throw in the fact that they all also play either champions league or europa league, and go deep into each cup, means they play a LOT of games. One of the reasons why they are such good developers of talent. Likewise when our players have played for the old firm clubs or the large dutch and Belgian teams, generally speaking theyve gotten lots of games and this is the reason.

He was here 6 years, played in the WC qualifying, played in all 3 WC finals matches, returned to Europe/US for a few seasons after that and was back living in Australia by the end of the 70s where he has continued to live, afaik. And he stated he was "no longer Engish" after playing for Socceroos. At what point is he accepted as Australian?

Fair point. I will be more specific: he was an English footballer. And personally, at the time, as a kid, I recall very clearly seeing him as yet another Brit import playing for Australia and only here because they weren't good enough to make the grade in England. And let's be honest, the 74 team had a number of them. As you can see, I'm old enough to remember, and there was a real unease about the fact we were being represented by those kinds of players. If anyone ever doubts how far the local game has come, have a look at the player by player CVs of the 74 World Cup squad.
