The Sydney FC Thread

This will have zero impact or interest in Sydney. Big news in Melbourne.
Most people in Sydney wouldn't know these players.
Only caveat might be re harming the sport and clubs brand amongst its Sydney market. They’ve worked hard to carve out a niche amongst the Anglo inner city and eastern suburbs broadly progressive subset and they lean hard into the indigenousness of the game and slap a few pride flags on it for good measure. Many of these types perceive afl to be a more progressive alternative to nrl (they’d be shocked if they saw the difference in demographic and spectator behaviour in the stands at many working class Melb afl clubs) …but yes broadly agree, I’d never seen any of these blokes faces in my life and couldn’t name one of them

It's been demonstrated conclusively that no matter what any other sports do in the rapey & drugs department it makes zero impact in the level of interest that these sports atteact or sustain.
Yeah look at the millions who still support Man United, Marseille and Fenerbahçe after Mason Greenwood (and he got away with it).

No doubt the AFL has worked hard and with the funding they have has made slight inroads into Eastern Suburbs.
But the fact remains this 'semi pro' A-League are producing players playing in the world's premier sporting event and signing for some of the biggest leagues in the world, while these infamous Swans players hardly raise a care in Sydney.

Afl will never be a considered a serious sport in Sydney imo in the way it is in Melbourne. It’ll have its fans but it’s more seen as a recreational activity/pastime here in the same way some people in this country get into the American football, but very few are actually gonna lose any sleep over the results once the game is over.

Ahhh you people complain about AFL bias with the media and then can't wrap your head around a free pass for the clubs to do something of themselves.

Australia cup has been fun for the diehards but the general public don't care..all I'm suggesting are the clubs get off their arse and do sooomething

Wishful thinking on your part.

People don't just stop following a sport and then follow another, just because of a scandal, no matter what the scale. Although, Australia may be the exception to the rule, in large.

Again you not listening.
A few AFL players affected due to offfield indiscretions has no affect in Sydney.
If you want to understand think this was NRL players in Melbourne, would hardly reach majority of sport followers.

Ok 👍

Well was worth a try

First time I really paid attention to anything AFL related, I used to catch the same bus as one of these players to school so I eventually walloped one of them after saying something. Thankfully that was before I am sure he came some sort 6ft 7 athlete or whatever the AFL build is. Seeing the name brought back some memories lol
