Tv/movie thread

There’s this movie SAIPAN about Ireland’s disastrous preparation for their 🇰🇷🇯🇵 ‘02 WC campaign that culminated in Roy Keane walking out on the squad; it stars UK comedy-veteran Steve Coogan as then-🇮🇪 NT gaffer Mick McCarthy:

And here’s the clip of the climactic bust-up between McCarthy and ol’ Keano:

yer I watched this pre WCup from memory.
River ting actually but when isn't it involving Keano.
Pity he was a great Manc for I admire the type of player - no BS.
Was a stark reminder of that WC - gawd McCarthy at the time must have felt like an utter gimp.
The walkoff at Training having just arrived, media everywhere - omg.
Imagine the member of Parliament coming over to try extinguish the fire as well.

Netflix
Just finished last night Song Sung Blue.
About a singing duo who played heaps of Neil Diamond covers.
Can't stand Hugh Jackman but co star Kate Hudson is worth watching.
Good feel movie due to the great tunes might I add.

I was a huge fan of the original first Money Heist.
Some of the other following were so so But this recent one
Berlin and the Jewels of Paris was entertaining.

The Waterfront
Saw it sometime back pretty good thought to mention.

Ransom Canyon - yet to finish.

Anyone bothering with Ted lasso season 4?
Sorry no, not really, Season 3 was a struggle to finish for me.

Something out of left field but I watched Project Hail Mary with Ryan Gosling last night, totally expecting to hate it but ended up really really enjoying it.

Its quirky as fuck but a really charming story.

4 of my grandmonsters had watched Project Hail Mary and all of them said "you'll love it, RIMB".

I did enjoy it too, but found it to be targetting a slightly younger age demographic than me with the cute little CGI puppy genre. The movie had the potential to rip my heart out in places but did not quite get there.

A good time waster at the least and personally I think much more than that. Different enough, clever enough, and done well enough to carry me along.

I watched Good Luck. Have Fun. Don't Die yesterday and found it to be a different and clever story line. A bit slow as they did the now popular overdone "six months ago" backstory jumps that I consider to be largely script cheating.

Worth watching for its difference and it amusement value if you don't take your movies too seriousl, and not a bad social comment either.

My next "watch" is the Odyssey .. Im holding out for proper IMAX which is booked solid for the next month or so and so Im doing a bit of gratification delay on this one. I wanna watch it as it was intended and immerse myself into the greatest story ever told (or at least one of them). Dont care about the woke/anti woke nonsense, just want the details right and the production flawless.

I hate going to the movies.

My movie patience has been finely developed to wait till it comes to Netflix, Stan, Binge, Paramount+, Prime, SBS on Demand, ...

My mind is my theatre! Stuff the big screen, deafening sound and piss smelling carpet.

I am still waiting for "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" to come to one of them again so I can see how I missed The Odyssey references first time round - having only read a Ulysses story and not The Odyssey before I watched it first time.

Im quite the opposite. Whilst Im more than happy to watch at home via streaming or whatever, something as grandiose as this visually NEEDS a massive screen that takes up all of your peripheral vision... I LOVE the movies mate, always have.

Imagine watching something like Lawrence of Arabia on a screen so huge your peripheral vision allows you to see nothing but desert. All I need is a giant box of popcorn and an audience NOT riddled with colds and runny noses and Im in heaven.

Now if only someone would do Lawrence of South Melbourne to make your life complete.

Pig. Mud.
