On Brisbane local ABC radio this morning the presenter was talking to a guy who is an "infrastructure expert" called Jon Calacino who was extremely unimpressed with the Brisbane Olympic Aquatic Centre for the 2032 Olympic Games which was announced yesterday.....

It has seen its projected budget surge to $1.2 billion. This figure represents a massive increase, nearly doubling the initial $650 million estimate put forward by Swimming Australia.

He suspects it will rise further potentially to $1.5 billion.

This for an aquatic centre with a legacy capacity of around 8000.

What's this got to do with football you might ask...

Well it works out to roughly $150,000 per seat....

While public coffers are pried open to the tune of $1.2 billion to $1.5 billion for an 8,000-seat Olympic swimming venue in Brisbane, the local soccer community and A-Leagues ecosystem continually run up against a brick wall when looking for small to mid-sized, purpose-built rectangular stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur's Stadium, one of the most modern football stadiums in the world cost around $30,000 per seat.

Yep...I get that swimming is a pretty popular sport in Australia but really???

Instead of getting a dense, atmospheric, inner-city boutique football stadium that could permanently supercharge the domestic game, the region's football community watches billions get poured into temporary Olympic overlays and mega-projects!!

Seriously, is there a more boring sport to watch than swimming? Top speed is walking pace.

It's definitely up there. Pretty much all racing sports are boring. Swimming, rowing, walking, running, cycling, sailing, etc. All the same. All boring to watch. Winter racing sports are a bit more entertaining because they constantly stack.

hate swimming with a passion.

running, if I'm awake when the finals are on, maybe.
cycling - the thing that does me is the long stages. I'll watch velodrome stuff.
Sailing - no thanks, see above
car racing is a little different, it sort of sits between the long stages/track racing area for cycling - but since it is a lot more familiar (eg, we drive cars regularly, compared to riding a bike, or sailing a boat) then I find more enjoyment out of it.
