Australian transfers 26-27 Summer

Guys... Playing at Sporting is BETTER than playing for the bottom half premier league sides that you seem to be pining for! In fact its a better standard than majority of the teams in German, French and Italian leagues. Sporting is ranked 1848 on ELO which puts them as the 11th best club in Europe.

This would be 7th best in EPL, 2nd best in Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and 3rd best in Spain!

This team made qtrs last season in champions league and won 3 leagues in a row season before last.

This move is fkn huge, and probably the biggest in Aussie football since Kewell to Liverpool. In fact Sporting are ranked HIGHER than Liverpool were when Kewell moved there. Yet youre all talking about it as some kind of placeholder before he goes to "da premier league bro". This IS the top level!

Unless of course he moves to either the EPL top 5, PSG, Real Barca, Bayern or Inter... thats it. That id the only slight level above Sporting as it stands right now in world football.

Yet i bet if he were moving to say Tottenham you'd all be creaming your pants saying how huge it is etc lol.

If Skoko is ever going to have it, this is his time to show it. This probably should have happened a few years ago

(I didn’t check his history so for all I know he’s been loaned before).

Yes ppl are saying its a big move, but i dont think most realise just how big a deal it is... A lot of comments are that its stepping stone to epl, development etc .. its the 11th best club in europe currently, so theres no stepping stone about it unless Nestor then goes onto a City, ManU, Arsenal, PSG, Bayern, Barca, Real, Inter etc. Sporting are just below them currently.

Id only rank the following moves above this in terms of most monumental in Aussie football ..

Okon to Lazio 96
Kewell to Liverpool 03
Bosnich to Man U 99
Viduka to Leeds 00
Bresch to Parma 02

Don’t even start me on hoping for the wonder kids to break through - Markelis, Davies, even Esposito plus a million more. We’d cling to every name in hope only for them to be cut, come to the A-league and be in NPL in 6 months.

Took a while to realise it was just agents planting stories on TWG.

Got me thinking actually.. when is the last time an Aussie played in the knockout stages of UCL?

Would have to be Kewell or Kalac in late 00s. Or maybe McDonald?! Dunno

Hrustic played in europa league final in 22, Viduka and Schwarzer in 2006.
