Australian football doesnt really do any analysis
Have a look at the Socceroo stats/analysis thread!

I’ll have heaps over the coming weeks!

Football is about to disappear from Aus mainstream media for 4 years until the next WC, apart from the next women’s WC if the Matildas qualify.

The Matildas have already qualified for the 2027 Women's World Cup by making the four at the Women's Asian Cup on home soil in March.

No yeah I love your work, I just meant the TV people in Australia don't seem interested in providing the feed for analysis from Fox or actually doing it themselves alot of it from Australia tv presenters is about effort and workrate... rather than actual tactical analysis.

Great!

We should have more football coverage in mainstream media again.

Many old timers off forum, believe there is a conspiracy against Aus domestic football in the media.

As usual, the pre-season games played in Aus by UEFA clubs is the biggest event on the football calendar for Aus mainstream media.

Lionel Messi will be regaining the record outright at the conclusion of the World Cup final though but both Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are now the top two leading goalscorers at the World Cup when taking both men's and women's editions into account.
Bear in mind though that comparisons with previous cups - number of goals scored etc - are not exact comparisons now because of extra knockout round this world cup, and 72 group games as opposed to 48 group games from 1998 to2022

Of course expansion of the World Cup means that there will be more goals scored and we'd expect to see the same trend in both the next men's and women's World Cup cycles when they become 64 and 48-team comps respectively.

Disagree. Lydia Williams, Tommy Oar and Prince Boateng did a lot of tactical analysis.

To be fair - they have done that for a few games - I think there was one of the quarter finals they did this on too

I streamed several games on SBS like this. HT and FT interviews in a language other than English and no translation. Not exactly great television. How much would it cost to bring in a crew for a couple of hours to analyse these games?

The ABC and the SBS are funded by the government. They definitely have the funds. If not, maybe they should cut some of their other stupidly performative and biased programs.

SBS bid $30 million for the WC rights and I would assume they generated a decent ROI on that given the ratings etc. I think they definitely could have done more. I would have liked to see more variety in the guests, way too many former players and not enough coaches. They could have also brought in more guests with a link to the teams playing as they would have more knowledge of their players etc.

Go home Kane useless cunt
England's Irvine. He needn't always start games. I reckon starting Watkins will free up other areas. Depends on the opponent.

SBS coverage is crap. Why did they cut away to like 10 minutes of adverts after the game. Where is the post match analysis, interviews etc.

When they came back to coverage it was Mbappe talking in French. And the commentator goes, "thought of Saka and Mbappe". So we heard the french, but not the english.
That's my gripe with many broadcasters. Cut to music and ads at full time instead of a good 5min watching the players mingle and argue. The missing analysis is frustrating but I'm pretty sure many tournament games had analysis and this playoff was skipped.

Yep....This is classic broadcaster feed management. They often switch between world feeds, local commentary, and player interviews. Mbappe frequently speaks French in mixed zones/post-match (he's done several this tournament) which I've seen on L'Équipe TV....

The commentator referencing "Saka and Mbappe" while the audio was in French suggests they were on a raw or alternate feed without immediate translation/dubbing. It's sloppy when it happens because you get the original audio but miss the English context.

However, ill rarely criticise SBS.....

They're still miles better than the alternative.

The big three commercial networks would almost certainly butcher it worse with heavier ad loads, more frequent commercial breaks, fewer matches shown live/free, and priority on Australian content or whatever drives ratings over football purists....

But, while he's energetic and clearly passionate about the game that Claudio dude is a but annoying at tumes...

But that's just me and probably because of his noticeable anti-England edge...

You get lots of eye-rolling at their style, highlighting "luck" or physicality over quality, and generally siding against us .

But that might be a broader SBS thing rather than just him. A lot of people say they don't normally notice that but it stands out when you're invested!!
