Australian news and politics.

There's a couple of nice little bars down the road from me which I sometimes go to and ive noticed that they have started to introduce 'happy hours'...

One is doing $7 schooners between 3 and 5pm on all tap beers and the one across the way is doing $12 pints of Stone and Wood and Guinness between 4 and 6pm.

Then there's a pub further up which is doing a $5 Schooner on it's "beer of the month" all day every day.

Sorry to introduce housing lending data into this thread.

Also some interesting stats on the front page, something for everyone.

I think that this is a reasonable correction of what was definitely an overheated property market....

A soft landing rather than a crash!

When prices are showing signs of stalling or declining in major capital cities like Sydney and Melbourne, it means that buyers have shifted toward a more cautious posture, preferring to wait for stabilisation rather than competing in an inflated market.

I don't think were looking at anything like a prolonged downturn here primarily because of the "supply and demand" issues. No doubt occupiers and investors will re-enter the market once they perceive we're at the bottom of the cycle....

My prediction is the big "bounce back" will be in about 18-24 months.

Buy now kids.....you won't regret it!!

General rule of thumb is a 7yr cycle.

I agree after all the whinging it’s time to buy moving ahead before the increase applies sooner or later.
Now or never for some as they say.

For someone who gets annoyed with someone posting The Guardian and claiming them biased, you sure do post a lot of Sky
Well it was a counter to the nonsense statement that is the ABC is impartial & balanced, this proves once and for all that is categorically bullshit.

It doesn't prove anything. Sky is the most biased news outlet in the country. Trusting them on this matter means absolutely nothing. Sky have a long running agenda against the ABC and try to discredit them at any possible moment.

I'm not defending the ABC. But people who claim about unbiased impartiality and then use Sky as their source don't make any sense. Use the laughing emoji all you want, but the blatant ignorance of the complete bias of Sky is worrying.

Tell me you didn't watch the video without watching the video. They showed a piece from ABC's Insiders program which confirmed they are indeed biased.

Oh and btw Sky are privately funded so can do whatever it likes but when our taxpayer dollars go to fund the left-wing propaganda arm that is the ABC we have a problem.

I did actually watch it. Andrew Probyn says, "certain parts of the media". There is no clear mention of the ABC (although he probably eludes to them, but then again he works for NINE who are right leaning). In saying that, The lady from the Guardian called out what Albanese said and labelled it as "casual misogyny" to which the lady from the ABC said, "i agree".

That's fine that Sky is privately funded, but you don't get to cry about The Guardian (privately funded) being "biased" just because you don't agree with them, and also claim Sky is the beacon of truth just because they confirm your bias. Also, does receive tax payer money. in 2017-18 they received $330k for one specific programme. They also received a $30m grant in 2017 and $10m top up in 2020.

The ABC has written many articles attacking Labor particularly when Ita Buttrose - a liberal supporter - was in charge. I agree with yourthat the ABC needs to be impartial, however, we shouldn't be using confirmation biased news stations to prove the point.

Where should we get it to prove the point then?

Like I said privately funded media like Sky & the Guardian can do whatever they like for the aforementioned reason.

However the ABC which the government uses our tax dollars to fund is nowhere near impartial or balanced and that is a problem.

Anyone who can sit there with a straight face and tell us the ABC is impartial and balanced needs to be committed to life in the looney bin.

My point is simple. If you refuse to acknowledge the Guardian as a source, you can't acknowledge Sky.

I'm not going to sit here and attack the ABC or any other news outlet. Australia has a media issue in which we have not protected our media and its legitimacy, which has led to private control of most of our media, and bias on both sides, and successive governments have all tried to manoeuvre the ABC for their purpose.

In saying that, we live in a time where the divide between right and left is so much more now, that people only source what suits their side. We keep letting the elites dictate who we need to hate, and it only further increases the divide, and push us towards sources of further confirmation bias. Sky is not a smoking gun evidence news source, for the same reason you say The Guardian isn't.
