FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

I think Spain were a bit better today, Portugal’s chance at a World Cup run is over for now where do they go from here will be interesting given the talent on disposal can they improve there squad will be the question going into 2030.

For Spain they not at their peak best unlike in the 2024 euros but you can’t underestimate them, because their level of football is more than capable of winning the World Cup.

Cristiano’s last time at a World Cup, not to be for him the ironic part was the first World Cup he played way back in 2006 was the closest Portugal has gotten to winning the World Cup when they made the semi final after beating England on penalties but they lost to France in the semi finals when Zidane was around.
A shame they haven’t got close to that since.

Another tournament where Portugal go out without doing much despite having a good squad. Time for Martinez to go. To not put Ramos on for Ronaldo when we were struggling to do anything in the opposition’s box was criminal. Happy to start Ronaldo in games but if he isn’t be affective in the first 60, Ramos needs to be coming on.

Has there ever been a manager that has fumbled seriously good squads like Martinez has?

Is he going to fail upwards again?

Could the Belgians skip Balogun in the pre-match handshakes? As a sign of 'he shouldn't be playing'?

Or does that risk people then misunderstanding that 'sign' as racism?

After the England vs Ghana game the only player that didn’t shake Thomas Partey’s hand was Djed Spence (fully COYS). Thomas Partey has eight charges (seven for rape and one for sexual assault) against him from four different women. Declan Rice had a big old chat with him (an ex-teammate) after the game.

If footballers aren’t willing to not shake hands with a guy who has multiple credible rape allegations against him, I doubt they’ll avoid shaking hands with a guy who got a red card that was suspended (which isn’t his fault, he didn’t request it to be suspended).

Most people wouldn't ..... but the media will find someone who makes that claim and push the theory, therefore, that all these 'Woke' people are evil and deluded

Anyway, today is truly the end of an era in football. No more Cristiano Ronaldo at the World Cup. Absolute legend of the game and what a career he’s had, despite not winning the biggest trophy of them all.

I mean, it is pretty woke to say that not shaking hands with someone who happens to be of a different race for reasons that have nothing to do with race is “racist”.

I agree it’d be a minority position though. Anyone who’s been following the World Cup would know that.
