I recall Jedinak was tasked with them when he was appointed? I'm not 100% on that but its tickling my memory.

You're selling Souttar very short there. He's a good passer, very fast, good tackle, good positioning, dominant header.

From my viewing they were better on the ball, had more possession, 7 corners to 4 and over 100+ pass's on us.
Yes alot of this hinged due to our tactics but they were better on the day - have 2 top players, Marmoush Salah.
Irakunda playing 9 was wrong but why didn't our fellas do better using the flanks, retain possession, open up more holes behind their backs for Irakunda to run onto for eg........
I get all our frustrations regards to Popa but the players need to take control and play it also.
We had no yellow cards in a do or die game.

I don't think it's a lack of respect for Egypt but you need to be confident you can beat anyone including those around your ranking. I think we could have done better to try and win the damn game rather than suffering through it behind the ball.

Agree but not in its original form. The world has changed. Ages 15-18 is when players are now signing their pro-contracts.

The French system is for 13-15 year olds. when they turn 16 (or earlier) they move to club academies. Kylian Mbappé moved to AS Monaco at 14.

The French system also is not only one hub but around 15 district ones. The players are released on weekends for their local clubs.

The age is important because at it largely bypasses the agents that ruined the AIS.

You would probably need to set one up in each state, i guess it all comes down to costs and earnest lobbying of the gov.

Was that FFA's standing on it when they did cut the CoE? That essentially the A-League clubs would pick up the slack in having their own academy each?

TBH I wouldn't be the right person to ask, but I think I remember something about leaving it in each states FA hands and yes the club academies.

With the Development Fee for on-sold players it would be an interesting fight who got the money.

And as the players come through, which of the teams within each State would get their pick of players from their academy? Do we have to introduce a Draft system?

And how much legitimate screaming would there be for a return on fees in grassroots clubs out of State 'paid' profits for good players?

I have no answers - just thinking out loud about the infighting that would go on.

I can imagine Club academies are the simplest solution - which is probably how we ended up here.

I guess there would be the mandatory development fee, or they could introduce a mandated 10% or something, then it's up to the clubs if they want to take them on.
I wouldn't think so, they'll go to a club they want to how it happened before, maybe they'll go to a NPL club, or even overseas?
AFL and NRL seem to get the funds and manage it, we have been pretty poor in lobbying the Gov imho.
Me neither and you ask good questions, I'm just tossing in my 2cents and there's probably better people who can answer them.
Maybe you are right, the AIS did seem to make a difference when it was catering to football though back in the day.
 
It is worth repeating .... ... many of our fans think a lot of our players are way better than they actually are.

A thread on - how to develop elite players - might be a good opportunity to list all of the things we probably are not doing.

Inspite of that, we are developing xome promising players

Popovic should Never have subbed off Metcalfe, Volpati and Irankunda in the 2nd half, maybe only one of them.
He should have realized its heading to penalties.
Two of the five penalty takers Must Never Ever Be Centrebacks!
Another stupid decision by an authoritive figure.
