FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

When I think of modern football, two things come to mind:
1. Bodo Glimt's runs in Europe
2. Norway's player development and men's/women's National Teams

They really are the zenith of where football is at right now. I think they lose out to Argentina, France & Spain purely on talent across the pitch, but they epitomise the modern game to a tee.

For our national teams and domestic set-up, we should be studying Norway a lot more closely and I don't say that as a knee-jerk reaction to todays result. It's been coming for a long time.

A lot of rubbish is spouted on this forum For example soft foul. There is no such thing. An infraction of the rules breaks the rules no matter how minimal.

Referees get praised for allowing play to continue. They shouldn't because they are not administering the rules as written.

A prime example is the inept performance of the ref in the France v Paraquay game.

Not to mention the ref in Socceroos v Egypt whose failure to bringg out the cards arguably contributed to Bos's injury

Even with money increasing in the women’s game the Nordic countries have always been great at women’s football, especially in player development. Their women’s national teams have always been more successful than their men’s national teams.

Finland is the outlier in both men’s and women’s football but that’s because football has a lot more competition from ice hockey there. Ice hockey is traditionally the main sport in Finland but football is overtaking it.

They’ve certainly had some great runs, obviously helped by their usage of a turf pitch (which is common in Scandinavia and Iceland because they can’t grow grass in winter, especially in Bodø/Glimt’s case since they play in the Arctic Circle).

The Scandinavian leagues are of mixed quality. The Allsvenskan is fairly weak in men’s football but the Damallsvenskan is easily the sixth best league in Europe and the seventh best in the world (behind the European Big Five and the NWSL). This is pretty much inline with the fact that Denmark and Norway are better at men’s football than Sweden, but Sweden are better than both at women’s football.

there was no blatant elbow, he jumped body body contact his arm went across casemiro's head/below chin after heading the ball first.
The way I see it ball contact first casemiro was never gonna get that ball originally.
Sorry Lurker we see it differently.
3.16 below he already got to ball first but as mentioned - softer ones been called as well.

England and Mexico now underway in their World Cup round of 16 game, with England kicking from right to left and Mexico kicking from left to right.
 
Yellow for Rice already. Needs to be done more in matches and not this 'too early' crap.
 
Declan Rice yellow carded in the second minute of the match for England for a foul, becoming the first player to receive one this match.
