FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

France beat Sweden who actually played some good football. They have Gyokeres,Isak and Elanga but France have Mbappe,Olise and Dembele so a great strike force against a very good strike force. That first goal by Kylian with his incredible quick feet was a thing of beauty.

Possession:
Netherlands 30%
Morocco 70%

xG:
Netherlands 0.23
Morocco 1.40

Big Chances:
Netherlands 1
Morocco 5

Deserved loss for the Dutch. Absolute disaster of a performance. They didn't play this negatively even against Spain in 2010. Back 3 with 1.93m van de Ven as a wingback? Koopmeiners playing in a back 3 in a knockout match. Malen is one of the most in-form goalscorers in Europe and doesn't even play. What is going on over there?
Astonishing the reversal.

As I understand it at the last WC, Morocco had little possession relative to their opponents in Qatar.

When I watched the game in extra time, Holland barely touched the ball. Morocco had the ball most of the time and when they lost it in the Moroccan Defensive Transitions, they won the ball back quickly from the Dutch too.

The Dutch should appoint Pep Guardiola to honour the legacy Johan Cruyff gave to Barcelona but we know they are not going to do this, Germany should look at Klopp but again do they have the ambition to do this.
Both national teams are at the crossroads at the moment whilst the likes of Norway and Morocco are the way up based on this World Cup.

For Mexico they look like a very solid team, no champion individuals but a strong well organised team with a passionate fan base.

France just look awesome to watch, their front line are so fluid and look hard to stop I expect they will get a hard test soon apart from the first half against Senegal they haven’t been tested fully but so far they look unstoppable so far.

I had a good look at Spain’s last group game. Can’t remember the opponent?

Their 1 and 2 touch passing and moving is awesome.

The other team just gave up possession and territory to Spain. Even on the occasions when they were Squeezed Intensively, they still kept the ball.

England were very impressive against Croatia, but then played 3 halves not scoring.

If England can ignore their fanatical media and fan pressure, they could go far. Tactically, in the past they were all crosses from the flanks, but have now added central third attacking interplay. They are a big, powerful team too.

That's true. Morocco was one of the best defensive sides in 2022 but under their new manager they play much more attacking. The emergence of Bouaddi and El Ayanoui has been very important to this stylistic switch. They still don't really have a good striker which can be a problem against teams that defend deep.

Dutch were poor, probably the biggest coaching mistake of the tournament outside of Uruguay. Too many defenders and players being played out of position and their midfield was outnumbered and overrun.

I would think that England should be able to beat DR Congo but I honestly can't see us beating Mexico in Mexico City...

Historically, England have a solid record against Mexico but at home, they're looking extremely good this tournament, while England has had two decent second half performances against Croatia and Panama but have looked really stodgy the rest of the time...

Haven't seen a better team than France at this WC mind.

Their phenomenal attack is firing on all cylinders here...

Mbappé, Dembélé, Olise, Barcola, Désiré Doué, etc and the squad depth under Didier Deschamps is giving them real quality from the bench. Defensively quality is very noticeable too...The complete package!

I agree with you on France's form.
Yes pretty complete.
I wonder IF they can hang onto this form all the way.
At the same time I feel the Argies are just as complete in their way.
They both are the standouts.
Spain, has been quiet as have their star players - they could be the perfect storm coming to hotter from deeper into the Cup.
Surprise package is Norway not qualified since '98 - and I feel they can take on Brazil ok and knock em out.

Germany have been wanting Klopp for some time. He has always been in their plans. The problem is that Klopp wants something part time and chill, so unless Germany are going to give him a bit more flexibility in the role, he is going to stick with his current role.

I still wish he picked Estéban Lepaul from Rennes. Top scorer in Ligue 1 yet people still keep ignoring him in awards, squad picks, etc, even though he scored more goals than even Ousmane Dembélé.
