A thread for the former club. I'd love to know how they came about and subsequently died. I wonder if there's still a pulse there. Any stories would be great to hear.
If they do come back and choose to retain the old logo, I hope they go w/the shielded variant of it:It’d be great to have them back if it can work out!
Like Clive Palmer he struck me as a non-they were in big trouble after they lost millions in that debut season, (it was rumoured more than 5 million dollars) I don't think matheson anticipated that much money would be lost.
he's a bit of a shady character as well - from memory he got caught "providing" cars, money, race horses to officials in one of the neighbouring islands to Australia for favours. I think it was Fiji, but it may be PNG or Tahiti
Yup 100%, hes had a lot of run ins with financial authorities/regulators over the years - even unpaid taxes here in australia.Like Clive Palmer he struck me as a non-️ yuppie bogan looking to make a quick buck rather than playing the long game - hardly the sort of person you’d want in charge of a club, in this country particularly.
IMO the Fury also missed a trick by being based exclusively in Townsville; they needed to play the odd match in Cairns/Mackay/Rockhampton.
No suitable stadiums. TSV is the capital of NQ so people re used to travelling there whether it's sport, concerts or hospital visitsLike Clive Palmer he struck me as a non-️ yuppie bogan looking to make a quick buck rather than playing the long game - hardly the sort of person you’d want in charge of a club, in this country particularly.

Bloody Effnikz... lolWhy don't we just not allow the Brazilians to leave and they'll just have to create a new team called NQ Selecao.

Challenge accepted...Let's bring them back, Western United thread style.
It folded in 2017, ironically at around the same time that Gold Coast Utd was resurrected. What ever happened to the state league team that started up after their a league demise?
More realistically just have them kn0ck-up some of the local sheilas and we should see the results in 15+ years’ time; pay-to-play system and general youth-dev. incompetence be damned..Why don't we just not allow the Brazilians to leave and they'll just have to create a new team called NQ Selecao.
