FIFA 2026 WC - general

Good read. It mentions that Morocco heavily and actively scout diaspora from Europe, but then people laugh at us for suggesting we do the same.

Mentioning “home” is interesting. If they don’t feel European at all, why did their families migrate to Europe? Why milk the player development and welfare programs of European countries?
Many Moroccan players played for multiple aged teams of France, Belgium and The Netherlands and the used Morocco as a fall back. You can get their strong connection to it but the guys would come across as very French or Dutch with their language and, schooling and football education.

Something a lot of countries have is the people who didn't leave have resentment to those who went elsewhere. Germans for example are shocked how friendly Turks are in Turkey and the Turks there say the ones who went to Germany are the bad ones. A lot of the current North Africans in Europe who don't have any claim to asylum are career criminals using weak laws to operate a life of crime while having accommodation and healthcare paid by the host country.

Germany did get ripped off with those calls.

Kimmich there still shocked and too arrogant to admit how inept he's been at 3 world cups now. The little prat came in thinking he was the next best thing but the golden gen had already won the title and the next batch have been an embarrassment.

This is the result of Bundesliga clubs playing French, Dutch and English kids rather than their own.

Yeah I can’t imagine if Australia was in Europe.

Gotta be some mad drop off in talent in Europe AND South America.
That Nertherlands team looked like a bunch of midgets.
Spain looked pretty small in size as well.
Soutar should be at one of the big clubs based on how tiny these teams NTs look

Morocco scored with a player who represented France for years at youth level, Senegal was also an option but then changed to Morocco this year. That many years being eligible and only joining for the WC stinks. Morocco have a lot of other players they've developed themselves but the rate at the European football farms will keep them out. Australia doesn't have that rate of players developed aboard.

Ronald Koeman has resigned as Netherlands head coach following their elimination from the World Cup at the round of 32 by Morocco on penalties, stepping down from his second stint in charge of the side in addition to hinting at ending his managerial career altogether.

I get the concern, but the benefits flow both ways. European clubs have scouted and recruited across the globe to their benefit, also. There are also complexities when you consider the impacts of colonisation which still plays a huge role in this, e.g. Morocco is deeply entwined historically with France and Spain among others.

Our situation is a bit different in that we don't draw on the colonial and cultural ties of former colonies but migration between Australia and the countries of diasporas are increasingly fluid.
