I don’t agree with Irankunda getting an 8.5

He was probably a 5

We saw why he’s only where he is at the current moment.

He has flashes of brilliance but last night was terrible. Not only was his passing and feet bad but he was lazy at getting into Position.

Hopefully it’s out of his system.

He's not a central striker. I guess you could say he drew the Paraguay defence back but he needs space to use his acceleration.

The silly dive to try and win a penalty was naive. The whipped shot across goal could've been slowed for an easy pass to O'Neill who was wide open.
 
We lack a quality 10 and we have no line breakers in the middle of the park. Its just bang average.

Our best stuff came through Volpato and Bos. Which is not surprising considering they are only 2 players that can actually beat an opponent one on one.

I thought we would also be better at set pieces. This should be a strength but the crossing has been diabolical.
 
Eventually we should revert to a back 4 and get Robertson in. McGree will return. Move on from Irvine.

The list of strikers coming through need to be actually called up to the squad and played.

Yeah, both McGree and Robertson could play as 10s. The forgotten one is Nieuwenhof. He's been an 8 mainly but I think he has the ability to be a success at 10. That's if he can get his body right, which remains to be seen.
 
German half time show basically said Australia with all the chances and attempts to actually play.

I think part of it we have just made the last 32 - what we did in 2006 and 2022 by qualifying. Winning a knockout game may well change that feeling - it will match 2006 and 2022 but it will also be the first time for a knockout stage win.
 
Watching back Bos put in an absolute shift. He beat the man so many times and had so many good touches.

Depends on opponent but I'd like to consider Devlin for an hour but if we lead he'd also be useful to close things out.

Watching back his touches weren't right and he doesn't enjoy central play. I wonder why a instructions Popovic gave him when he called him over.

The wing run when he shot was better. Once or twice he had shots blocked from way out when passing across would've been better.
 
Fans rated Yengi as player of the match on BBC sport . Shows how many Africans use BBC. Ridiculous polling.
 
There were a couple of moments where we had players on the edge of the box and were ready to shoot. More awareness of that is needed and players to be on the pitch who can pass the ball on the outside of their foot.

The one where Bos shot wide at the end saw Metcalfe in an excellent position.

Disagree.
2006 we had an entire team of well-known, experienced players all playing in top tier leagues and all at their career peak. Everyone expected us to beat Japan. It was all down to the toss-up Croatia game. 11 on paper were at least the equal of Croatia and way better than Japan.
2026. We have a team of mainly nobodies playing in lower tier leagues, some making their competitive NT debuts, and no one expected us to win a game. 11 on paper were worse than all 3 opponents.
But apparently the expectation in 2026 was not just to get out of the group, but to do it in style.

This awareness comes with experience and time playing together. This is a team that has barely played together.

We lacked a 10 because we didn’t play with one. Volpato could be an excellent 10 in behind Ira and Toure.
